Default Iowa Barndo Build

The excavation contractor started moving dirt yesterday on our Iowa farm. The building pad is going to be 120'x60' with a terrace and drainage swale to divert the runoff from the hill behind our barndominium. He is also cutting in the driveway.

We have owned this farm since 2010. We are retiring and moving up there as soon as we get the barndo finished.

Here is a google earth pic of our ground. The red rectangle is the building pad. The red line is the driveway.

Looks like it might be a few days before we finish the building pad. It ain't spring in Iowa yet.

We are going to get an Iowa ASA Federation up and running. It only makes sense....ASA's title sponsor...Delta Mckenzie is in Iowa. There has never been an ASA state qualifier held in the state.

We are NOT going to try to make it as big as the Texas Federation. Too much work for a couple of retirees. We will probably have one or two state qualifiers and a state championship.

Mark. Let's meet up for lunch. We will be here until mid summer.

Last week the weather up there was beautiful. It froze up again over the weekend.

Tomorrow high of 40 with 70% chance of severe thunderstorms then its going to get down to 19 tomorrow night.

Here are some progress pictures on our building pad in Iowa. The excavation contractor is about finished. This was a few days ago. It is covered in snow again today. This is the second time we have had snow since he started the excavation work.

The picture with the truck in the foreground is view out of the living room down toward our creek bottom. As you can see we had to cut into the side of a pretty steep hill to make a level area for our building.

More progress pictures from our farm in Iowa. The driveway sub grade is done. Ready for gravel. Still a little snow on the ground. 27 degrees this morning. You can see how the house will be sitting up on the hillside by the elevation of the driveway.

No basement. The 30 grand that a basement would cost is going into an indoor archery range (yeah right) or other things that Tracy specifies.

We will have an in ground storm shelter.

Not a lot has changed but the building pad is done and the driveway subgrade is done. The grass is getting greener by the day. I'm going up there May 9th to okay the building corners. Hopefully I will have some foundation and building pictures soon.

It's hard to build a building from 600 miles away but we are slowly making progress. I have been up here since Wednesday. I met with the water service, electric service, and septic tank contractor. Also the building contractor and I laid out the building corners.

We officially have an address now.

I found my first matched set of sheds to this afternoon.

Here are a few progress pictures from our Iowa barndo build.

Perma Columns are set. The plumber got started today. Didn't get pictures of the Amish crew drilling piers and setting the Perma columns. They did a great job. The Amish crew will be back to erect the building after we get the slab poured.
