Yes it is, and the "bullet" that I made isn't as long as the real deal.
I was actually going to make it a bit shorter, so it didn't look weird.
Here is an actual case with projectile (there are many different projectiles too).

What a great tribute to your dad. I'll bet he would really like what you've done. Are you going to bury his ashes but keep the memorial piece?

His ashes will be buried in that urn.
I did have two additional casings etched, one of which I will keep.
My step mom gets the other.

The 105mm (at least in tanks) had several different projectiles. I can remember HEAT (high explosive anti-tank), HEP (high explosive plastic), Sabot, and Beehive. May have been more. Man, after 45 years I can still remember the fire command...Gunner..HEP..troops...1200...

Direct fire: Fire mission, enemy tank, immediate front, shell HE, fuse PD, when ready!

Indirect: (many types) Fire Mission! gun 1, charge 5 (1-7), shell HE, fuse VT, fuse time ____, quadrant ____, deflection ____ when ready.

                      Number one ready

Number stand by, number 1... FIRE!

                      Shot over

                      Splash over.
