Well I made it back to my brothers place in Menard for some fellowship, pecan pie eating (with Blue Bell of course) and some hunting. He had seen a good size 6 point in October that he wanted me to shoot but the buck did not show on that trip. I shot a 5 point instead that he wanted to take. I never made it back until this week and the 6 had not been seen. That was ok because there are some axis there and who knows what else might show up. Arrived Tuesday afternoon and got in the tripod box stand we had built back in March located right next to the San Saba river. Was a beautiful afternoon with lots of critters showing up to eat up the corn. I saw 20 plus white tails, 7 axis and 71 turkey, this is not a typo, the turkeys came in 3 different groups so I was able to count them. The 6 was among the group so I confirmed by text that he was the one and took the shot. The arrow zipped thru like butter and sparked off the rocks behind the buck. He ran about 75 yards and tipped over in sight. Only one axis came in range and it was a fawn. My wife and I had a great time and I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to my brother Richard for the invite! Merry Christmas everyone and good hunting, I still have one tag left!!!
