We have alot of deer on our part of the Leon River, just not many shooter bucks. I was happy with this one.
I could tell the deer under the feeder Saturday morning was a buck, just by his body size. As it got lighter, I was happy to see a decent 8 point we had on trailcam in Sept. He had been cleaning up the corn for awhile and was getting antsy. He looked well over 13" and had obviously been doing his neck exercises, so I decided he was the one.
We fight alot of conditions as we mature. Loss of memory, vision, hearing, bladder control, you name it. So everything was a blur to this GOF. I do remember seeing my 20 pin clearly, hearing the 100g Slick Trick mag hitting ribs, and the arrow hitting a camera mount pole and the arrow popping out as the buck bolted off. My nocturnal and arrow showing the direction, I couldn't see through the trees enough to follow him. It continued to get lighter,I regrouped and after 10 minutes was going to climb down to check the arrow, when I see a big patch of white through some branches about 50 yards away.
Retrieved the arrow, no tracking needed, thank you for playing Mr.8.
The Hogboy had a great weekend sharing the Hilton campfire and hunting with Benben and Txnrunner (the James boys, Travis, his Dad Rick, and son Weston).
Meat in everyone's freezers.
