Well after not seeing too much deer movement on the morning hunt due to the wind I decided to sit in a stand that everybody dislikes in the evening. With very little hunting pressure on that side of the ranch, a few have sat there before with zero deer sightings. I've always liked the "underdog" blinds if you know what I mean.
When walking up I spook 3 deer at feeder (2:45 pm) so I get set up quickly. I was covered up with deer within 45 mins of arrival and after watching a lot of young deer play around the feeder pin for an hour or so I saw a 3 1/2 12pt coming in with no hesitation. We do not take that quality of deer on this place yet. But behind him, the 9 & 9 buck was cruising the parameters very cautiously and eventually decided to present a shot at 18 yards before entering the corned area. The ole slick trick did an excellent job (first time use) and I watched him go down 50 yards away. Being that it was still a little early I decided to swing around to the direction (away from feeder) the doe ran to and wait. Sure enough the doe(4) VERY cautiously started to come back and knowing that they have been spooked once I drew early and let'er rip once I had a clear shot. Found her at 50 yards too.
This buck is named 9 & 9 because he is a 9 pt & 9 1/2 years old.
