Does anyone have a favorite grain or ammo to use in this caliber? mainly deer and hog hunting. maybe a little distance shooting(500yds or so)

I handload mine. For distance and targets, federal gold medal 190 grain factory loads. And nosler trophy grade 180 accubond factory loads if you don't reload.
If you do handload, I shoot a 185 Berger hunting VLD with 77 grains of h1000 and a CCI 250 primer. I do hunt with those with excellent results. Out of my other 300 I shoot a 180 accubond with the same mix of powder and primer. Got lucky that it shot very well in both guns

I tried several but the Nosler 180 gr. produced sub moa accuracy with plenty of punch load to about the middle of the Sierra book figures. Mine is ported so it is LOUD but minimal kick. I shot a deer from a box blind once with no ear protection once and it left me and my non-hunting buddy nearly deaf for hours. Won't do that again. I shoot my .243 most often now. Good luck with yours. .300 Win mag is a great round and you can buy ammo at WalM-art in a bind.
