I suppose it is bad form to congratulate oneself but I hit a couple of 3D milestones this weekend at the Texas Recurve shoot at Cowtown Bowmen that made me feel really good.
1) First time to shoot a 40 target course without taking a zero
2) First time to average over 8 points per target (8.625)
I think it was largely because I did a better job than I normally do of managing the mental side of the game. After every shot, I tried hard to concentrate on thinking about nothing except the next target. Someone else kept score for our group and I did not keep a running total in my head. It may just be, like great shooters sometimes have an off day, average shooters sometimes have a great day - - tomorrow I may not be able to hit a barn from the inside. However I definitely learned a few things I hope I can carry forward.
(thus concludes the bragging session)
