Anyone else Bucks shedding already?

Shedding in Guadalupe County as of 3 days ago.

Newton county , East Texas is shedding like crazy.

Here's a progression if the shedding I got this week. First is in velvet, econd is shedding and the last is out of velvet. Apparently, when it starts coming off, it does it quick.

man does anyone know what causes them to shed there velvet?

I can't give you a scientific study to read, but I've read it is due to the change in the length of daylight--photoperiodism. That is responsible for many of the behaviors we see in animals.

The majority of our bucks have shed since 9/1 in Callahan county.

We did a spot light count last night, out of 24 bucks only one in hard horn.. cooke county. .

I would say 90% of our bucks in South Victoria county are shed now. Our pre rut will start within the next two weeks.

Mine started the last week of August and have likely all shed out by now.

Much like Rob in Victoria, our rut starts early and many years is in full swing during the 2nd or 3rd weekend in October.

I have several in red river county out of velvet as of last week. Probably a 1/3.

wow thats crazy i guess it never occurred to me that they shed that early. Makes you wonder how the heck does anyone ever kill a buck in velvet lol
