Free.99! Heck of a deal for not gettin caught without'em. California charges $100 or so per hog tag...craziness.

At that trashy fishin hole...midMay...the hogs were rollin through there just at night fall. Most were wet...so they had to be swimming in from somewheres.

Yee Hawg!

Went out to gate 6 today no luck, but I did meet another bowhunter named Chris, if you're on here or if someone knows him tell him I said thanks for the bottle of water. Once the clouds rolled in the humidity that came with'em took it all out of me. After that bottle of water I Had enough In me to go and explore the other side.

Couple of questions for y'all, I was following some cow tracks down the trail on the right side of the gate. Does that go into private land? Because I came across a homemade tree stand didn't know if I went too far but I definitely didn't jump any fences.

Also, at the end of that trail I came to a small swampy little pool of water with a lot tracks around it, was a little elevated on the far side so I decided to go up and look further on. Then something screamed at me. Sounds crazy I know, but it sounded like a god**** howler monkey. And it was close, stopped me in my tracks and then when I started moving again I heard it 3-4 more times. Couldn't get it on my GoPro. I turned around and gtfo there the sun was already goin down and I realized I didn't pack my headlamp today. Figured someone was messing me because I was on privately land but I dk. It def worked tho lol scared the **** outta me haha

This one is still on public land. South of that is the San Gabriel river, close to the dried blue swimming pool.

Made my way up to an arundo stand I call Hog Majal. Crawled in there an scared myself to death as several pigs of various sizes came close to me and made noise but were too obscured by brush to shoot. Id like to go back there with about 3-5 guys to push them out sometime.

2nd day went back with my buddy but didn't see any pigs. Saw lots of deer, a diamondback rattlesnake in a tree line, and a big fat water moccasin down by the trashy fishing hole.

I love tramping around up there but it would be nice to kill something soon.

There is a rumor that they are about to legalize rifle hunting in the Granger WMA, but you still have to wear your blaze. Anyone hearing about this?

Doubt it. For pigs or deer or what. You're supposed to wear you Orange regardless unless bird hunting.

I was wondering about the rules around everyone wearing blaze... understand why its there. But should it be everyone that goes into the WMA not just hunters? After seeing a church youth group doing some type of nature retreat backpacking around Gate #3 made me nervous for them.

https://tpwd.texas.gov/education/hun...ze-orange-laws

"All persons on public hunting lands (state, national forests, and grasslands) during daylight hours when hunting with firearms is permitted must wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange material with orange headgear, and at least 144 square inches appearing on both chest and back.

Exempt from these requirements are:

persons hunting turkey, migratory birds, alligators, or desert bighorn sheep;
persons within the enclosed passenger compartment of a motor vehicle; or
persons within a designated campground, designated vehicle parking area, designated boat launching facility, or departmental check station."

vs

http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/gra...on/Hunting.asp

"11. Must I wear hunter orange?
Corps Non-Permit Lakes: No, but the proper wearing of hunter orange is highly
recommended for hunter safety. Please refer to the information for Sam Rayburn Lake
and Wright Patman Lake for specific requirements on wearing hunter orange.
Corps Permit Lakes: Yes. Hunters (and anyone accompanying the hunter) must
wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange material (144 square inches on both
chest and back) when hunting and are also required to wear some type of orange head
wear. Hunters exempt from this requirement are: persons hunting deer/turkey/feral hog
5
during the archery only season and persons hunting turkey, waterfowl, or migratory
birds (except dove hunters during concurrent hunts for quail)."

The answer is I have no ****ing idea, but I wear it!!!

This is the only part that applies to us. Any lands managed by TP&W are subject the rules and regulations as outlined in the Public Hunting Lands Map Booklet. If it's in the book it is managed by TP&W.

You MUST wear hunter orange and the church group should be as well; everyone should, the only exceptions are outlined above.

Lake Waco would be a WMA that adheres to the other rules.

Yeah, i was thinking about saying something but I definitely will if I run into them again. Has anyone else seen this group? Cant remember the church but their vans were from one of the larger churches in Austin. Its a pretty loud group but at least they are getting kids out into nature.. even if they did ruin my hunt that day.

Anyone have any luck/see any hogs tonight? I went out to gate 6 and 7, but there were already a bunch of people parked(with Granger Ranger/Texas Bowhunter bumper stickers) so I took off, as I didn't want to throw salt in anyone's game, especially since its opening weekend for deer. Haven't been hunting long, but I'm pretty sure that's generally considered a **** move. Gonna try to go out Tuesday or Thursday after class.

Next time just go hunting. It was us! We were just walking and stalking. Lots of times we push pigs to each other. Your not messing up anyone's hunting. If anything it helps...

Shot at 5 feet too. He never even saw me. He was bedded so low vitals were hidden. Didn't think he'd make it out of the briar patch, so I sat for a bit and retrieved my arrow, bad decision.

Kind of, a lechusa is a Mexican superstition of supposedly a witch that transforms herself into an owl or some kind of half and half monster . Skin walker is more Native American but I think the stories say they transform into coyotes ??

I think that it depends on the region, like different tribes have different versions of what a skinwalker is. Based on your description of a lechusa, I think that they may be one and the same.

From what I've read/heard about skinwalkers, they can take on many different forms, animal or human, and they either possess a person or take their place after eating them/stealing their soul or whatever.

I'm man enough to admit that I possibly would **** bricks if I heard that weird screaming noise. I mean it wouldn't stop me from hunting/fishing, since it's probably just a meth head tweaking out, but its creepy nonetheless.

On a different note, does anyone know the average water depth of the San Gabriel river? I'd like to go hunt the other side, so I'm hoping that there's a place that's shallow enough for me to cross before I bust out the kayak.

I think someone said that the level at Dickerson's bottom is only like 2-3 feet or something. On my old phone I had an app that had topographical maps of all the rivers/lakes here in Texas, so I know there are a few places where it drops down to like 20 ft, though it's generally 3-5 ft on average. I definitely don't want to take a surprise swim with my bow in hand lol.

sounds a little sketchy... depth is not your enemy however the muddy bottom is. probably easier to just access gate 9. It would require a longer hike but at least you'd be dry.

You can usually cross at The Steps; it can anywhere from ankle deep to waist deep. Good hard bottom.

If you park here and walk down the path, not the stairs, there is a pretty shallow crossing there. No more that knee deep when the river is up.

Go to the right when you hit the river and look for it.

anyone know of a place that accepts wild game to donate? or any of y'all would like donated hogs for yourselves? (usually only clean 100 lbs or less) i live alone and don't have much room for more meat.
I'll happily except the meat that you don't have room to keep it, if you still have it. Also, for future reference the only way to donate hogs are if they are still alive and go through an inspected slaughterhouse. They do however take venison, but even then, you take it to a listed processor and recieve a receipt from them.

(Yee Hawg...because I like to go faster than Grandma)
What flippin TXDOT jackhole decided to turn Hwy 95 between Circleville and Granger from an awesome 4 lane into a dumbchit 3 lane. Now its a farkin danger for EMS to pass!...theyve gotta swerve into the oncoming lane to pass same lane traffic.

Snort! Yee Hawg!

I'm out at gate 7 right now and as I was walking in, a little Yorkshire terrier looking dog walked by. Anyone missing a dog?
