    Time to change the law

There are still 10 counties in Texas where it is illegal to use a tracking dog to recover wounded deer.
Angelina, Hardin, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, and Tyler counties.

I was able to get on my dream lease for this up coming season in Nacogdoches.
It is going to break my heart if myself or some other hunter looses a deer, knowing I have one of the best tracking dogs in the state sleeping in my truck.

Not illegal to walk your dog on property you lease though.

Just see your pup as a hunting buddy who just so happens to be walking with you at night.

I agree the tracking dog rules in those counties need to be changed.

I agree 100%. I posted a thread about it a couple years ago. I hunt Hardin County. There was a time for the law, but that time has long passed. The old deer dogs are all dead, and a lot of the guys who hunted with them are too.

Won’t happen until you get the landowners in those counties on board but here are the guys at TPWD to contact:

                Mitch.Lockwood@tpwd.texas.gov
                Clayton.Wolf@tpwd.texas.gov

Send them an email and let them know it’s important to you.

You would think better to find a wounded animal than let it be out there rotting for nothing.

The problem in those counties especially Newton County is some folks think it is their God given right to run deer with dogs anywhere they want to and they ruin it for those who own tracking dogs.

It’s odd how you can smoke pot, speed, shoot a bow illegally in your yard. skip work, vote for Obama and it’s ok but break an out of date stupid game law and even nonhunters think you are a menace to society.

Not gonna happen. I was once on board with it, but no longer.

I could see it being done in the confines of a lease, but, stopping at the boundaries. SETx property owners are pretty touchy when it comes to their land. Lot of them hunt their own property and will be very upset if a tracker and his dog trespasses on their property. Can you spell fiasco?
