    Austin Area Gunsmith (case removal)

I screwed up and had a case head separation. It's stuck pretty good in my Savage bolt gun.

Anyone recommend an Austin area gunsmith that can fix this in relatively short order (like this week)?

    Thanks!

Tumbleweed in round rock can probably do it while you wait

Take a tight fitting brass bore brush. You may need one in a handgun caliber. Push it in the cartridge case until you feel it hit the neck. Then pull back. It will usually come right out.

        Thanks for the recommendation.

Unfortunately I have tried several large brushes, with no luck.

It is stuck hard and may need to be extracted with a threaded tool or cerrosafe.

I have experience with 2 gunsmiths in Austin: McBride's, and Hank Flemming. McBride's is good, but pricey and a bit slow. Hank Flemming is good, and honest. As I recall, his prices were fair, and the time was reasonable:

            Good luck,

            Dave

Thanks everyone. I'll make some calls tomorrow.

All the shops appear to be closed on Mondays.

Unfortunately Blackjack is currently running at 4 weeks turnaround.

Making more calls trying to find a 1 week option.

pour a little thin oil down the bore,, get a wood dowel rod that will fit through the case mouth and tap it out

Tim Smith in Gtown is going to take care of it. Thanks.

I wouldn't pour it down the bore but plug the bore and pour from chamber end to keep it from running into the action. Smith will have it out before you know it though--

Case head separation...nothing to bottom out on to tap out.
