Default Mountain Lion Encounter

My brother just came down off the mountain here in CO and sent me this video he took during his muzzleloader elk hunt this evening. The lion came within 17 yards of where he was sitting. Havenít got much info from him yet as service is spotty but will get the story in a bit.

I'd have dropped the camera a lot sooner and had the muzzleloader aimed at the cat.

LoL, Iím not sure what the ending was about. Surprised he didnít just stay still since it obviously didnít know he was there or just wasnít interested in him. Hoping he got some good still photos.

I think he stood up so the crap in his britches didn't get on him!

I have had one encounter in Coleman, Tx with a mountain lion and all I had was my bow. I walked 3/4 mile back to camp backwards probably in record time!

Season doesnít open until November 20th unfortunately. Heís hunting with an open sight muzzleloader which wouldnít be my choice for a lion but if it were season Iím sure he wouldíve taken it, it was plenty close enough!

I believe you. I did 200 yards backwards walk with a 30-06...

Ran a 2K acre property near Llano for 22 years. The stories of encounters were total lies or total truths. I thought it was a _____ fill in the blank......

Crazy that week of hunting. All of the wildlife acted different. Cows and deer were extremely cautious and skiddish. I was on the second to last day of a 7 day trip. I went home that night. No way on Earth I was walking to the blind the next morning in the dark!

The cat was coming towards him so when it got to 17 yards he stopped the video and stood up with his muzzleloader to try to scare it off. Said it looked at him for a second but he hissed and it took off. He has a game cam up there and hasnít had a photo of a cat til now. So he said he was spraying a cow urine cover scent every so often, guess it worked.

Just sitting on the ground. Not sure if he was wearing ABUís or actual hunting clothing, but it was a hot day here today so probably not completely covered. Iíll ask him.

I see most of my game sitting on the ground to include cats, just wondering his color scheme. Many times I wear something like a light top and dark bottom or desert patterns. I hunted many times with a tank top. I usually will sit open tall grass or brushtops.

That's awesome, I would love to have that encounter, much less get it in video! Lots of guys go their entire lives without ever seeing one in the wild.

Even if he didn't shoot anything on this trip, that video is a trophy itself!

At the old house I lived in while married we would have a cat come around about once a yr. Always knew because the horses would get extremely nervous. At the ranch we have a cat that comes around and hangs on the River. As you mentioned the wildlife will just disappear. Mark aka Doghouse has seen it once or twice.
