This is how champions are built! If they miss a single rep, let alone practice, theyíre going to sacrifice their potential to go pro! 12years from now when they sign the endorsement deal they will look back fondly

By the time you get them layered up to practice, they won't have the range of mobility to even have a productive practice. I always looked at this when I coached. I am fairly hard arsed when it comes to that stuff involving kids, but the weather, coupled with the attention span of a soap dish that 7-8 year olds have, I wouldn't do it. But to each its own. When I was young, I practiced batting on top of a snowy mountain top using a broomstick. Had to walk 3 mile, uphill both ways.

When I picked my kid up from your practice yesterday he said he was wore out. so I made him jog behind the truck all the way home.

Can you please work them harder if that's all you got maybe I pull my kid off your team. And you know he is the next best NLB player don't you?

Weather affects playing baseball a lot more than some other sports. You need finger dexterity to grip a ball and have to throw with a bare hand; can't really wear a lot of clothes, either, and move to hit, catch, field and throw. There's a reason baseball players are called "the boys of summer" and not "the boys of the dead of winter."

That said, in the present case I might have opted for a team meeting or bonding exercise, or tried to find an indoor facility and hit. I recall having Little League players meet in the LL board room on a rained-out practice day to discuss and draw up various situations on a white board. I know my son's high school coach would have a big "goal" setting meeting for individuals and the team in his classroom early in each season. In select ball, teams we played for had access to indoor facilities all the time for bad weather. It's very possible to have a productive baseball activity without risking weather-related injury or just being miserable and not-fun. It's game; it's supposed to be fun.

Now, my son's college team just played a series in Arkansas with temps between 37 and 43, along with off-and-on misting rain. I was there, and it was pretty brisk. Play was sloppy at times, as cold hands struggled to get grips, making no play routine. Weekend before, they played in Denver, and actually cancelled the final game of the series when it was 11. (Our coach wanted to play, but the other team didn't -- partly because they were out of pitching, after we put up almost 30 runs in two games at that altitude.)

But these are 18-22-year olds.

Make it fun, read the kids and cut it off when they stop having fun. It's kids playing a game in the cold weather, they will survive and might even have fun
How long would kids last skiing in baseball outfits. I get what your saying but for an otganized practice with parents dropping kids off its probably not worth it. I agree with dbat or indoor training. My kid played select until hos sophmore year. Coaxh was a retired mlb player and hard @#$. If it was a tourney or game we would play. Practices can be moved.

Most of that money is in the "travel" part. I don't know the acutal number, but would guess most all 5A and up high school baseball players played year round travel ball for years prior to entering high school.

You are picking the apples from my comments and comparing them to oranges. It was 45 degrees, sunny and maybe a light breeze at 4:00 PM here in Austin yesterday. My kids were outside throwing a baseball in sweats and a hoodie, until I broke my **** ankle

When I got home from the ER, they played basketball in the driveway until dark. At 40 degrees, some heavy long johns under the baseball pants and shirt, a thick hooded sweatshirt and maybe a stocking hat and keep them moving. It wasn't snowing or 4 degrees outside. People all over my neighborhood were out walking dogs, playing in the yard, etc...

As for all the stupid talk about baseball and no scouts calling and everything else, baseball wasn't the point. If the option is to get the kids together to play -------insert any organized outdoor game that doesn't send you into emotional spasms----- vs sitting at home playing video games, I would much rather bundle 'em up and go play.

43 with some wind really isn't a big deal to kids that age. As long as you keep them moving it will be fine and the parents can sit in the car.

What do you have against video games? I bet you've never broken your ankle playing them.
yeah, whats wrong with a kid wanting to be a "gamer" or "youtuber" when they grow up?

I completely agree!!!

Sorry but you cannot coach that age group very much. And not enough for them to make adjustments to justify anywhere near the kind of money some pay!!

Go let them hit off a tee, run, throw, and go to every LL practice.

You either have it or you don't

I agree, waited every year for snow to play football with the neighbors, so do my kids. My son will not wear a jacket period. I'm just saying that with the choice, I would have 7 year olds practice indoors in that particular scenario. Playing outside with the ability to go inside whenever someone wants is a lot different than some of the coaches decisions I've seen in 8 or 9 years of select ball. Our high school has an indoor practice facility and we have one back to back state championships so apparently it doesn't make someone soft to practice indoors from time to time.
Old school ways are not always correct.

I love video games, I just hate the fat pasty kids that play them 9 hours a day
