Water will seep through mortar.

Hopefully there is a pond liner under the mortar and brick.

40 gallon main pond hard liner dug down into the ground. 5 gallon spill pool above that hard plastic also. 3.5 gallon hard plastic waterfall pond filter above that. All of the water is contained in those three hard shells.

River rock base under everything slopes from the house out to the lawn.

I sloped the soil away from the house, then added about 6” of river rock following the same slope. I left it like that for months to confirm I was effectively moving the water away from the house. I just added the waterfall a few weeks ago to the slopped area.
