I hunted a place just south of Liberty Hill. It ran from town to Round Mountain rd. The old man that let me hunt told me he had a poacher problem and wanted me to take care of it and he would let me hunt for free. My hunting buddy on another place was the local game warden. I would see some one walk hunting through the pasture and take a picture of them with my camera and a telephoto lens and call my buddy. He would meet them at the gate. Caught five in all and they all came in from the ranch to the south. The owner eventually ran the whole bunch off.

This is bad but I have a buddy his uncle is crazy.
      1. He is a convicted felon that can't have a gun but yet he does have one.
      2. There a neighbor hood where there are deer everywhere

Well he would drive around in his truck and if he saw a deer he would just shoot at it and drive off and come back and get it. Well come to find out. One of the houses in this very nice neighbor hood came up for sale and he Broke into the garage and was hunting out of the window. Well one day the realtor came by with some customers why he was in the garage. He proceeded to tell the realtor that this was his old house and get was getting the stuff he forgot out of his shop. Then got in the truck and took off. Never got a deer though. Just crazy to me.

There is no statute of limitations when it comes to illegally killing game in Texas.

Never killed more than our limit of squirrels, ducks, fish, etc but we were normally on someone else's place. shot a ton of rabbit out of the big thicket national park. had a buddy that lived right on the edge of the big thicket. Park Rangers never caught us, but they sure tried quite a few times. We were 10 to 13 years old and hunted them on foot with pellet guns. killed a bunch of squirrels too. Got chased out of numerous private ponds, sometimes the same one several times. Caught a couple smaller gators out of a beaver pond. still don't know who owned the property, but we spent many a summer day fishing it and many a winter trapping it. later that year, the preacher told some of our stories at my grandfather's funeral. He was a deputy sheriff, and the funeral home was packed with LEO'S and at least a dozen GW'S! My buddy turned white as a ghost and looked like he wanted to melt into the pew!!!

And I have always wondered, us here on TBH must all be some bad dudes cause everyone always says "they can't wait to catch someone". Anyone ever wondered what happens when you do catch them and you realize that you might have made a bad choice.....as in they stomp a mud hole in your arse and them walk in it til its dry ?
i had a few things in my favor, one i had a badge and knew the law, two they were dumb enough to leave there shotguns in the woods to drag the deer out, i just didnt know that until i got out of my truck,,,, one of them actually told the other two they could take me,, so i aimed at him and pushed the safety off.... he changed his mind .... i really didn't think i would be escorting them out, that's why i took their driver licenses ,,, i already had about 5-6 years at beaumont pd ,, and was used to dealing with multiple people,,,,

Was new in the bow hunting world and was sitting in my stand one cold morning. I hear a deer walking up behind me towards the food plot I did all by hand. I stand up and get ready and start shaking my but off!!! I listened very closely and all of a sudden I hear a small caugh/grunt that sounded human. I slowly turn and look and there is a feller looking around with a rifle all decked out in camo. I didn't say anything, just watched. He walks with in 20yds and freezes. He never looked at me but stopped dead in his tracks. He said " this isn't my property is it?" I said nope, he turns around and walks off. I was 16 and had all kinds of thoughts run through my mind on that one...I was scared to death lol

Another time, was dealing with poachers on a particular small place I hunt now. I come out of the woods and it's dark and I can see lights. It's in town so I figured someone was "parking". Well I slip up to where my truck is and can see it's a grey/silver suburban and can hear a child's voice. So I unpack my gear and load my truck up and walk over to tell the people it's private property to move on please. Middle aged guy with around a 10yr old said he was just showing his son the deer blah blah blah. Gave the whole spill of private property and don't come back etc etc. Next Friday I hunted a stand close to the truck. I hear another vehicle pull up in the same spot as wknd before. It's prime time and I'm furious as what's going on!! This time I went straight to my truck and pulled up bumper to bumper with the same guy. I sat there and called the warden and told him what was going on. Pd showed up fast!!! The guy gets out and so do I about the time the officer shows up. I asked him in not a good manner if he was dumb or in a bind?! Pd started talking to him and found he was a fellon and not supposed to own guns. Sure enough rifle loaded in the truck. To top it off he had a xbow in the back seat cocked with a bolt in it....he left in cuffs and a tow truck showed up

Only turkey woods were on out side of the river so we knew we had turkey poachers in that boat.

We bailed off the bluff to within 200 yards of the river. My buddy stayed back to use his box call to "gobble" back to the poachers while I silently approached the river bank in the very dim morning light. The poachers owled and Willis, my buddy, answered them with a gobble. Here they came straight to the bank, up the muddy slope and right to me. At ten yards I stepped out and said hold it right there. Loudly. Told em to put their guns down. Loudly. Loud enough for my buddy to hear....

Front guy whispers to the other one and shifts his gun. I click my safety off and told him I had four 3" Magnum #2s aimed at him and anything stupid would get him killed. He put his gun down as did his buddy, just as Willis came upon us. I introduced them to the landowner. Smart one in front says "What now, you going to take us to the GW"? Nope I answer, I am the GW and ya'll are under arrest. I always carried a ticket book and a pen on me when off duty hunting.....

I was working one day and she called to say she had some poachers on her place. I ask where they were, which way they went. She replies they are sitting here on the powerline waiting for you at gunpoint. My gun point. Holy smoke, I'm 45 minutes away. I smoke the tires heading her way.....

I get there and drive thru the gate and to the powerline. There sits my wife and three poachers WHO WERE **** GLAD TO SEE ME. I arrest all three and tell em not to come back, to a man they said no problem, we will never set foot on this place again. LOL

Did ya'll know grown men are actually terrified of short wimmen with rifles???? and they don't know her like I do, they'd really be scared.

Sure are a lot of perfect people as well. We all did stupid stuff when we were young. Glad you can make a character judgement of an adult off of stories about a child's/teens escapades.

What someone does when they are a young and dumb kid shows their lack of maturity. It doesn't have a single thing to do with who they are today. To say any different is simply incorrect. Just my opinion. I know of a few family members who killed deer in the offseason when I was a kid, just to have meat on the table. Was it legal? Nope. Did I care? Nope. Not exactly apples to apples with poachers like most of us have dealt with, but still illegal all the same. Some folks need to realize that unless you lived a perfect life across the board and have never broken a law of any kind (no matter how insignificant it may seem) it's all the same. Consequences are entirely different, but breaking a law is breaking a law

I ended up becoming pretty good friends with a guy who owned a decent sized lake out in the woods by getting caught bass fishin. He actually gave us permission to do whatever after he caught us. That place was LOADED with barndoor crappie. As long as it wasnt deer season we were allowed to fish and trap to our hearts content. Half million dollar+ homes on that lake now

that was generally what happened to us also. get caught, offer labor in exchange for permission to fish, mow the yard a few times, get to fish anytime we wanted. different times for sure!
