    Prescribed burn during windy season

We see these federal prescribed burns jump containment lines every year during windy season.
    Evacuations in process. The Cibola.

Lots of fires breaking out in these spring winds.

I don't understand why, here in the West, usfs attempts to burn anything between March and the end of May. There's just way too much of a chance of it getting out of hand with the winds.

Devastating fires create access to more dollars.
Then you can just blame it on global climate change and nobody will care.

I bet the Forest Supervisor, District Ranger and Fire Management Officer are puckered up right now waiting to get their butt chewing. After an investigation and finding of fault they will all get a disciplinary promotion.

No such thing as a controlled burn in the winds we had today.

Yup! I hate it when the news uses the term “controlled”.

Very true. My best friend from back home(South Carolina) is the silviculturalist for the Francis Marion NF. I know all too well how screwed up the FS can be. It drives him nuts too.

My son’s sixth grade class was on a school trip near Capitan for last few days. They had to evacuate hour or so ago and heading back to El Paso. They would not even let them go back to lodge to get their belongings.

If it is the lodge I'm thinking of it is pretty much in the path of where these two started from.

                            Lone Tree Ranch.

I think their main concern was the roads to leave.
Still getting details though. Just glad they are on way home.

It's called the 246 fire. The bible ranch is east of that road.
