I check mine pretty often, but I just use the old fist and thumb method on my longbows. If it's above my extended thumb (6 1/2 in.)with my fist on the riser, I'm good.
I agree on the 100 shots or more to settle in the stretch. I have backup strings for my bows that have all been pre-served, nocked, and stretched ready to go. They all required being strung at least a few overnights and about 100 arrows flung to keep a brace height setting
I make my own strings. So I make sure I make the bottom loop sot hat it is snug in the nock. That way when I unstring it and let the top loop slide down the bow, the string will not come off.
