    Ag exemption - Bees

Wondering if y'all know anything about keeping Bees on your land to get AG exemption on taxes? I heard there are beekeepers that will sign a $1 lease to keep their bees on your land to establish agricultural use. If you have experience with this please chime in.

Seem to remember it takes 6-7 hives

Only reason I know that is I looked at some property that was so lousy it wouldn't even hold cattle, but there were bee hives everywhere and I had to find out.

Your ag extension will be able to answer and put you in touch with bee keepers.

Thanks all. My hope is to find a beekeeper that needs some land for his bees do I don't have to mess with it.

I looked into this a while back and I could have sworn the state of Texas put something into law about this. Its 5 acre minimum and I thought 3 hives.

Sounds like it only applies to under 20 acres. Ugh..

Its going to take a little more than just leasing your land for $1 and the requirements will vary from district to district. You will likely have to have written management plans and be able to justify how the bee keeping is an agricultural enterprise and not simply a way to cheat your way out of taxes. If your land is very arid and not suitable for bee keeping, then you will may have to add landscapes to support bee keeping.
