Default A time to kill.

I left a good lease last year at the end of season to be able to afford the new ranch. Fortunately business has been good and I've paid 80% of the note I took to get the ranch down. The fencing is on going so that's a continued expense but I'll keep working on earning and hope it works out.

However the lease I left had a spot open and I have gotten back on. The hunting is outstanding. The folks there are fun to hunt and share camp with. Hopefully I will have plenty of LDPs with the trad gear to share. I may never kill a monster there but it's the most fun hunting I've ever done.

Hopefully I'm up to the task. I'll post here as things progress.

It's a nice place. The best part is the group. Like minded hunters on a bow only place.

Of course I will be the loan traditional hunter.

Agree with CRM, you have been putting in lots of time, and prep. Just relax and let the time happen. I've already shot over one this season. It happens and I still get in the woods as much as I can. Enjoy the season, it does not last long.

Up in a 15 foot ladder stand. Breeze is nice but still pretty hot at 89 degrees. But it's better than sitting at camp mad because one of the guys left the toilet running and the water it gone.

I fought the same issue early this season. Was working on buying a place, but knew the chances of it all going thru were 50/50 and it was all right around the time my lease payment was due. Place doesn't have tons of deer but it has some big ones on it and I hated to leave it after letting so many walk over the last couple years knowing what was on the place, so I rolled the dice and re-upped. I figured if nothing else I could lease out a spot to help cover the cost of the land deal went thru, but it ended up falling apart.

Good luck on your quest this season sir!

Well I got a feeder in place and a tripod set up back at the lease. Basically the same spot I've killed most of my deer at the last two years. Tripod is nestled into the same place but feeder was moved south about 25 yards. It sits at 13 yards from the stand. I'm actually back in a cluster of live oak and cedar about 8 feet deep. I took a couple dozen practice shots at a sack of corn. A doe stopped by to see what I was doing. Maybe next weekend she'll stop by for dinner.

Feeder goes off in 5 minutes. A doe was feeding under some oaks nearby when I came in. A little warm but a decent breeze even here in the thick stuff. Deer and pigs have been in here so we shall see.

So far no takers. But I do have a skunk bedded under a cedar 10 yards upwind of me. Makes my cover scent a little more believable.

Weather underground said south east wind this morning but I have a swirling south west wind. Had 4 doe in early. As I drew on one a rabbit came hopping through and they all spooked. After that only the small ones gave me shot opportunities and eventually they got spooky and wandered off.
