Question Ever used rice in a free-choice feeder?

Have a first-year lease in Edwards County. It's hardscrabble limestone country with too much cedar but offers scenic hillsides with sprinkled with pinon pine. A target-rich environment, the ranch is loaded with whitetails, turkeys, axis and wild hogs.

In free-choice feeders, the landowner has always favored milo, mixed with corn. In August, he will have access to raw rice. He asked if leasemates and I are interested.

Should we be?

Anybody out there have experience with rice? Benefits v. cost and logistical challenges of handling?

Inquiring minds want to know ...

I have put dried rice still in the hulls in my feeders and the turkeys like it. Of course all of the other kinds of birds like it also. I got mine from a rice mill, it was from what the use from taking a sample. I have heard of pellets made from the bran that is supposed to be good for deer but I have not found and of it for sale.

I would be prepared to see a llllllot of avian traffic, lol.

I would imagine the handling wouldn't be a huge issue; it's an interesting notion, for sure.
