    Question about broadcasting then shredding

This new lease I'm on has a big pasture on it and a river that borders half the land. I'd like to shred about 30-40 yds from the tree line into the pasture and plant it. The grass/weeds are fairly tall(waist high or higher). Would I be able to broadcast some rye, clover, etc, and then shred it and expect it to grow, or is the grass too high for it to work? I'd love to keep the middle part of the pasture tall and thick for more cover and put stands along the tree line to hunt the food plot and the river bottom area.

It will work with good results. The success depends on getting a timely rain, preferably a multi day rain after the seed is down. Success will be based on the retained soil moisture under the cuttings during the germination period.

It should work great with those small seeds.

Spray it (then wait a week), broadcast seed, mow over the top, pray for rain. Been doing fall plots that way for many years now.
