That's good to hear, it's going to be a good 2nd half I think

We'll boys, I can officially say, the mallard migration is hard, heavy, and getting closer! While working this evening up here in Nebraska I saw something that I have never witnessed.

I've seen hundreds of ducks at a time before, but this was much much different. There were thousands upon thousands of mallards flying over head. It was non stop for 30 minutes. I just kicked the seat back and watched.

The only way to describe it is picture a bunch of ant beds kicked over up in the sky. It was truly insane and a sight I'll never forget. Sure wish my camera would have focused! Had several groups of several hundred work in and roost in some corn fields a few hundred yards out.

Sure hope you're right. This first half of the season has sucked.

That's why I don't hunt much before the split. Unless you're in a core area of the migration, you're just not going to do well until more birds make their way down. This is probably the first front that's really had any impact on the migration. I think most people get too excited with early cold fronts. It's not nearly cold enough to move birds down in November. They will stay north as long as there is food and livable habitat. Up until the last couple of weeks, the northern portion of the country has still had available food and habitat. Now that habitat is freezing over and food is snow covered, they are on their way and getting close, so be ready!

Some random pics from a good first split. We shot 310 ducks in November.

Got 5 this morning hunting solo. Not near as many ducks flying as yesterday. I took my pup along for a little training.
