    oats and muledeer

Have any of you panhandle or west texas guys planted oat in your foodplots. If so, have you seen the muledeer more or less attracted to oats relative to wheat.

WE have a large wheat field currently, and I am planning on mixing oats with the wheat on 10 acres of it. I know it will help with whitetails, but was not sure about muledeer. It would be a bonus if it was a preferred feed for them as well. There are thousands of acres of wheat around us, and I am trying to differentiate this foodplot a bit.

Like you, I know it is a better whitetail feed. Cows also will eat oats before wheat. I'll bet muledeer are the same. The only issue may be cold hardiness of oats, but it shouldn't get that cold until muledeer season is over.
