I have had employers in the past give me a raise without me ever asking, so, it does and has happen.
On another note, I see min. wage as part time work, teenagers working while obtaining a higher level of education, etc... Not to be supporting a family. It doesn't take a lot to learn a skill and some skills are paying GOOD money now. But there is work involved in these skills. And that's the real issue, nobody wants to WORK anymore!!!

      We're did I say a McDonald's employee should make $70,000 a year????
Simple math, without doing it, says that roughly $32-$33 per hour..
      Good try though.

Y'all need to look at the reason there was a minimum wage in the first place... Maybe because given the chance many business owners (especially those who hire the inexperienced) will abuse the system... Seen it done

          UNIONS!!!!

What a lot of people don't know is that unions negotiate wages based off a multiplier from minimum wage. A raise in the minimum wage is a HUGE raise for the unions.

Imagine all those union workers in places like NY, NJ, Michigan etc all thinking they were going to get a big raise if Trump gets elected? Trump could take some solid blue states and make them pink (I won't call them red b/c Trump isn't a Republican). It could also swing Nevada with all those union hotel and casino workers.

          Read for yourself.

If any politician really wanted to raise the average wage they would eliminate the minimum completely. Employers would be able to set wages and would try to hire the best possible person for as little as possible, and workers would look for the best possible job for the most amount of money. A balance would be found and the average would be higher than it is today.

The MINIMUM starting pay at my company is $12 per hour. If a person isn't worth at least $12 per hour I don't need them here for anything.

          And on another note---

And there it is folks, Mike and ttaxidermy are really Bernie supporters. Sure, TT will reply back something not clever, but little does he know raising the minimum wage is a cornerstone to Socialism. Another cornerstone of Socialism is government meddling in private business. These guys love it.

If he actually stated a state decision, I'm on board with that thinking.

Who MAKES those people show up for work everyday for those unfair wages? Why wouldn't they go find a better job?

People are not ENTITLED to a certain wage or even to a job at all. Workers have the right to show up for the pay offered, negotiate a better deal, or go find a better job. Employers have the right to hire who they want, for what the job pays, and have the pay enough to get everybody to show up everyday.

A good example of this is teachers. Most teachers are really good at their job and very dedicated to a very important profession. Most people agree that teachers are underpaid. The problem for teachers is A- keep showing up for a job that doesn't pay enough and B- there is not enough of a shortage of teachers to drive up wages.

Unless teachers get to be in higher demand their monetary value won't change.

Now on the flip side of that if the ISD's started paying $150,000 per year for teachers--and tried to hire the most capable people possible for that amount--then most people in the profession today would be pushed out by people with better educations, more motivation and overall more qualified.

Y'all need to look at why you believe in liberal economic policies but think y'all are.... I really don't know what you and TT are. You comment on republican/conservative issues like that is what you are but have liberal ideas. No wonder Trump and Bernie have such a following.

yep. I dont understand how so many people dont get it. Every day you go to work ( unless you have a contract or are union ) you are agreeing to the terms that you and the employer have laid out. If you change your mind you are free to leave at any time. You are free to renegotiate at any time. If yall are no longer in agreement you are free to leave. Want a raise? Ask for it. If they agree then yay. If not, ROLL. If they decide to cut your pay you are free to tell em to stick it! Somehow people start thinking employers owe them something. The only thing they owe you is the the pay for the hours you have already worked based on the pay you agreed to.

It blows me away that someone above claims to be so conservative then wants the govt to set a minimum pay for work done for a private employer!

I'm a conservative business owner, 2 to be exact.. .
None of my employees make minimum wage or ever will..
They are all better than that.
I won't hire someone who's production is only worth $7.50 per hour..
I can't imagine the frustration those types would create.

                          Carry on..

It keeps the greedy from taking advantage of kids.. IMO. Do you also believe in slave labor?? We are 750 pennies, per hour, from that right now.

Owning a business or 2 does not make one conservative. Their beliefs do. And minimum wage is one of the top liberal beliefs. Economic beliefs anyway. But don't fret. Trump loves the uneducated. Conservative and liberal alike.
