Default Monster Stingray

We hit the surf again this weekend to chase them toothies but they did not want to play with us this time. However we did hook into a monster stingray measuring 56” across making it the biggest stingray I have ever seen in person. I have heard of bigger ones caught which is crazy.

It had a huge 8-9” barb on it. As much as we wanted to chunk it up for bait we opted to release it. When they are that big they deserve to live.

Cash which is TBHer Breezy gave it all he had but once it sucked the bottom it was over.

Overall another awesome outing with good friends and our families.

I meant to say Cash is Breezy’s son.

Thanks gentlemen. At first we thought it was a nice shark cause it made some big runs. Then after about 10 min it sat and didn’t move. Thats when we knew what it was.

That would have been a perfect piece of bait to beat your own shark record. Cant believe you released it!!!

Congratulations on the ray. I caught a big one in the mid 90s. I kept it but wish I had let it go as we got tired of eating stingray. Plus I got some strange looks going down the highway with it strapped to the back of my Rodeo.

Thanks amigos.

These big roughtail rays don’t have a long tail so getting whipped by them doesn’t happen easily. However the first thing we do is cut the barb off so its safe to handle.
