It looks 4.5 too me but it's no where near an exact science.
I believe between 3-5 years old are the hardest to judge. I also believe that diet and sand intake make a huge difference in this. A deer that eats a lot of leafy plants vs hard woody plants will show a difference. A deer that picks up a lot of sand, say from year round road feeders or food plots with low vetch type plants that hold sand will have more tooth wear.
Add to the chaos the fact that among known age deer, the "experts" were only right about 55% of the time at jawbone aging. Cemmentum annuli was better, but only slightly, as it was in the middle 60%. And killing 3.5 year old bucks makes total sense to me under the right circumstances. Others, not so much. The last two weeks I've been hunting where 3.5s do not get a pass, the next three days will have me passing several I imagine.
I use the deer age tool as a reference.
This buck could be 3.5 or 4.5. I'd have to see him on the hoof. The amount of wear on the 6th tooth says 4.5 to me.
Tripped her trigger so to me that’s all that matters. Just curious on age really bc the deer where this is taken don’t get a chance to live very long. Lol. I was thinking 3.5.
