Next trip up I need to borrow or rent a trailer from somebody. This way is for the birds. Making progress though.

My plan is to cut a V into the lot starting at each corner with the center cleared enough for the feeder. I can put a ladder stand on one of the oak trees.

I used loppers and a gas pole saw for the high stuff. Mine was already about a third of the way cleared though and I do a little trimming every once in awhile.

This is just me but, your place is ready for a feeder and stand now. They will trample and kill all vegetation within its throw radius.

Yeah, I may bring the feeder up in a week or two. Under brushing sure would be easier in winter. All this rain has everything exploding. I walked though and cut a lot of stuff that I did not bother to haul out. Next time all the leaves will be dead on that stuff making it a little easier.

Nice part is I started noticing definite hog tunnels in the thick stuff with tracks to confirm it. What looks like impenetrable gunch still has wildlife apparently.

Well after another 2 hours of hard work the feeder is up and running with 300lbs of corn. My perch will be about 10 feet above where the camera was for this pic. I will probably do some more thinning each trip because I'm only using a very small portion of my lot.

Thanks to Scott Key for helping me haul corn and Scott Barnett for hooking me up with tags and key.

Yeah, it's thick for people but no problem for hogs I'm sure. I do wonder about deer however. Next step is finding the owners of the adjoining lots, in particular the one behind me. Ideally I'd like to buy that one so I can cut a path from that road all the way through to mine. Heck, if I can't buy it maybe the owner will at least give me permission to do the clearing. Can't imagine why anyone would say no to that.

What are you guys using for stands? Initally I was just planning to go buy a 15' ladder stand but I'm kind of tempted to build myself a platform with some redneck steps. I have two oaks very strait and tall about 5' apart. I could envision something spanning between them.

Well, lesson learned. I lost the wing nuts that I needed to attach my varmit cage when I set the feeder up. Instead of driving to town to try and find some replacements, I just took the chance on running without it for a couple of weeks. Dang corn thieves got me. My feeder unit was hanging by one ear. They actually spun the other two nuts completely off so the thing was dangling. I'd say there was over 200lbs of corn in a pile under the feeder.

Wife was with me and after I got the timer/motor bolted back on and the varmit cage bolted on and wrenched down super tight, we used an old soft side cooler and scooped up the majority of the corn. I ended up with a half full barrel still a whole bunch on the ground.

I guess on the bright side, there is deer and hog droppings on the ground as well as obvious trails leading in so I know they have been there. That pile of corn could not have been on the ground very long.

I just scanned my most recent Hilltop for sale list for another TBHer. Figured since I have it in pdf might as well offer it up here too. It's dated 5-2-16. PM me an email if you want it.

I got a new solar battery supply set up on my covert camera this evening and topped off the feeder. 3 deer were at the feeder when I pulled up, the season will be here before we know it!

Looking forward to the meeting Saturday. Got a Boneview on Amazon prime day so I can easily check the can now. 4500+ pics in less than 2 weeks. I think I need to change the camera settings for much longer delay.

This was on the clubhouse wall Saturday. Pics don't give a size reference but it was about 10" long. If this thing joined me in the stand one dark morning I think I'd probably jump.

Looks like a 9 lined Skink, but I can't see the blue stripes. Those guys are harmless. Surprised he stood still long enough to let you take a pic. I should have been laying around in the shade like that Saturday instead of filling feeder in the heat.

I popped out at the spur of the moment yesterday and topped off feeders. I am so glad I have 4-wheel drive now! The roads are a mess and grass on them is waist high! I did see plenty of deer to include three sets of twins. I also stopped by the firehouse but no one was there so I went by the office to grab the list and get my work day knocked out because my schedule has been very chaotic. The little girl had no clue what I was talking about? Guess I'll try again later next month if I can.

What list? They should have a lots for sale list, but those ladies at the welcome center have nothing to do with the WMT. So they aren't going to know about workdays or anything like that.

True. I was hopeful they would have the list of ladies discussed at the meeting a couple months ago as no one was at the firehouse. Again, no worries, I should have one more opportunity to complete it before Season starts (I hope).

There were some ideas thrown out Saturday about a cleanup of one of the common areas where some guy apparently went way overboard with a treehouse blind. Sounded like a couple of guys were interested in hauling a trailer over to clean that up as a work day. Also mentioned somebody doing roundup around the container and range. Might just email the admin or another board member. I need to get mine in too.

No doubt. Had a scrub buck that frequented my feeder. Best part was, he had a buddy. It was a raccoon. Any picture with him in it either had that raccoon in it, or it would show up in another frame by a minute or so. Funny thing was it was during both daylight and evening.

I'll be. I was going to hang around and stick a pig but worked around the cleaning station, got hot, and decided cleaning a pig sounded too much like work. I did get a little work done on my stand though. One more top off of the feeders next month and I'm ready for opening day!

Lots range in price from $0 (yes, free!) to $10k+

Unfortunately if you did get one, registration for the Game Management Team 2016-2017 has expired so you could not hunt it this year. A full list of lots for sale with amounts is located at the Welcome Center front desk.

Been w hilltop since the early 80s I guess. Maybe 79. Only hunted it once though and that was 20 yrs ago. Things have changed I assume. We used to call the welcome desk to reserve a blind. Is there a website that explains the hunting requirements/prerequisites? Thanks.
I was there this Saturday. Large bachelor group of 2 yr olds just taking it easy on the golf course at 2:30

I love that place. I just can't hunt all my lots at the same time. I have 2 more. My buddy shot a pig there 2 years ago. I had deer come in every morning and the hogs owned the night. Where my feeder is there is always water so it's a really good area.
