As others have stated you draw blinds and are taken to them you must stay in your blind and shoot only within preset shooting lanes. I can see and shoot out of three sides front being at 66 yds, immediate right being a max of 200 and to the left being max of 300. More updates to follow.
Good luck. With that much shootin that means it a target rich environment and it's only a matter of time before you'll see something

I got blind 1, yesterday I saw one deer and it was a decent axis buck. It was a relatively close shot so I shot it in the neck. It went down and didn't move for 45 min. At dark I went out to take a took and it jumped up and ran off it was never located. I am pretty bummed out but not much I can do about it. Back at it this morning. When an animal is **** that runs you cannot aid staff in locating it they go look for you.

No and your not allowed to look by yourself, looking back I should have shot him in the shoulders but I didn't. I haven't lost a deer since I was 11 so I feel like a real jack *****. These things do seem more reluctant to die then whitetail.

That seems wasteful that they won't look the next morning. I understand not wanting a bunch of people trekking through the woods but they should at least give a second look in the daylight. Ya I shoot them in the shoulder.

The park staff do load you up in trucks and take you to your assigned blind ( which are popup blinds so bring some shooting sticks and a different chair if you want). They have put out corn feeders at every blind this year which is the first time for this. Bring some alfalfa hay to keep the Axis around a little longer because they clean out the feeders quick. This was a Whitetail and Axis hunt but really wanted you just to shoot the Axis because the Whitetail numbers are low.( I'm guessing do to the Axis running them out). We only saw four Whitetail the whole time we were there. My son ended up taking 5 axis on the hunt 4 doe and 1 spike. That being said he could have shot many more if we had freezer space! All in all it was a successful hunt with a lot of memories that me and my son will never forget! If anyone has any questions just ask me and i will try and answer them.
Wow!! Congrats!!!

Those state park "hunts" aren't set up for the experience, they're for thinning the numbers.

Default Last Hunt Report and Possible future archery hunt

Just got back from the last hunt at Garner. 20 Hunters I believe there were 9 maybe 10 axis shot. One relatively good buck will post pics tomorrow. Muzzy I think my daughter hunted the same one you did stand 17 I hunted stand 19. This hunt was the least successful because the deer had been shot at for 2 weeks.

Talked to the ranger as to why there is no bow hunts and he is considering it for the future. There is an estimated 800-1000 axis on the park. We saw at least a hundred every day right at the main gate. He said in the past he had a bow hunt and no one could pass the accuracy test. Not sure who took the test because it seemed really easy. He put a 5 x 3 postcard at 20 yards. You only had to hit it one out of 5 arrows and no one passed. I did not get all the details, but he is at least considering some future bow hunts.

All in all we really enjoyed it. The other hunts I have been on were a little more "relaxed" but this was still nice. I have won 30+ drawn hunts over the past few years so this was not my first TPWD draw hunt experience.

Default Lots of hunts each year

I win 2 to 4 hunts every year. This year I won Garner Exotic, Gus Engleng Management hunt, Shreiner Kirville park Management Hunt, and Richland Creek Bowhunt. All of these were drawn. This does not count any stand by or youth hunts I have won with my kids.

Last year was also a good year - McFaddin Alligator hunt, Richland Creek Management hunt, Brazos Bend antlerless hunt....etc, etc. I just look at the statistics (success vs applicants vs my points)

I wanna see pics of all these public axis...sounds like a good time if you don't mind a few rules and the success rate sounds really high!!! People pay a lot of money to go on axis hunts and this is totally free!

My Dad hunted blind 19 the hunt just before your hunt. He saw lots of axis the last 2 hunts. He chose not to shoot because I had already killed 2 and we had meat. I ended up killing another the last morning and gave away the meat except one backstrap.

Did you see a lot at Blind 19?

Had a great time! Everyone there was very courteous and professional. Although we were the 5th hunt (I think) at the park for the year, our group still shot 18 Axis! I will be trying to get back there next year!

Anyone have any idea of the odds of getting drawn??? Are the chances pretty good to get drawn or is there a crazy number of people that have applied for this park?

I would say its one of the more desired hunts. We were lucky! If I remember correctly the book said they had 2-3000 apps last year for this draw hunt!

I would call the week before all the hunts and try standby if they have a fair # of them. They drew 5 on our hunt.

Default Blind 19 and pics

My daughter and I saw very little. She hunted 19 and I hunted 17. We each only saw one axis and it was for a very brief time. Both we saw just trotted across the lane.

It was tough, with many people not seeing a single axis. (other then the hundreds you drive through at the gate - ha)

I tried to upload the pic, but obviously I am green screen pic illiterate.
