Default Gun Safe Art-More 3D Printing Fun!

Over Christmas break I picked up some African trophies for a friend to be mounted in a few months; and I had been tinkering with the ideal of scanning them and making miniature 3D models of them for gun safes, fridges, etc.

After scanning them to .stl files , cleaning them up in meshmixer they were printed in all white filament.

Next a little finish work to the horns and a neodynium magnet in the back and my buddy has his entire trophy safari in miniature on his gun safe!

I'm pretty happy with the first trial and think he is going to be happy with the little guys.

I'm not sure about a whitetail the tines at that scale are pretty tiny and very delicate while printing, if it would print then after post processing they should be fine. I have a large deer that was taken this season that is pretty heavy and stubby that I want to make a scan of and see.

Here is my very first try on a clients pronghorn from this fall, the file is available on thingiverse for free download if you have a printer to try it.

Very cool. We have a Dremel 3D printer in my technology lab at the elementary school that I teach at. We are starting to learn TinkerCAD through Project Ignite. They LOVE watching stuff get printed.

Might have to print this for em on Friday

I finally got around to trying a whitetail print, this was a smaller buck, so I decided to "adjust" the scale before printing to yes he went from a management 8 to a trophy 8 through the magic of meshmixer. The print needed a little more finish work and better color match on the antlers but proof of concept was successful IMO...

This was a very small print so I'm sure a bigger print will turn out better.

Last year I printed a whitetail my wife took just for fun. I didn't go the full route of painting the horns but the precision of accuracy is incredible.
