    Old bow - new string

A friend of mine gave me a 1953 Bear Grizzly today. It needs a new string. I have been shootings wheelbows for a long time, but know very little about recurves. What kind of string do I put on it? Will an off the shelf string work as long as it matches the AMO length listed on it?

    Thanks

An off the shelf string will work but you would be much better of having someone make you a good Flemish twist string. Also, for a 1953 Bear bow I would stick with B50 or B55 string material. Do not put a low stretch, or "faslflight" string on that bow or you could damage it.

If you PM Rick Barbee on this site, he can fix you up with a top quality string.

Thanks guys. I've got an elk hunt in September. After that, I plan on getting started with the recurve.

1953 is the patent date unless it is a static tip. Post a photo for dating.
