    Thermal scope for deer ?

I have a cataract surgery the 10th of next month.
The plus is I should be able to see
The minus is I wont be able to draw a bow for a month or so.

Looking over my toys, I have a 6.5 grendal that I mounted a IR Hunter Mark III on.

Id there any reason I can't hunt deer with it during legal hunting hours?
I ask because I know Lazar sights are not legal.

    I believe it’s legal.

I don't see why not, but I would leave the woods before legal shooting light was over just in case.

I am not sure you will be able to see as much detail as you would need to hunt deer. For some reason it is very hard to make out any antler detail at range with a thermal. I have not tried it during the day but have seen plenty of deer at night while hunting hogs/predators. You know it is a deer, but size, antlers, etc. are all very tough to see. It may work if you are right up on them like you are bow hunting but I have never tried it.

Do you mean laser sights, rather than Lazar sights? If so, per the current TPWD 2018 Outdoor Annual neither laser (nor Lazar) nor thermal sights are listed as being an unlawful Means or Method of taking game:

Yes it is legal. Just use binoculars first to ID the animal buck or doe

              Thermal sees heat.

Good Luck with the surgery. Cataract surgery was one of the best thing I ever did.

Why not just use a regular scope?

                    Yes that would be legal.
