Today was kind of a sad day for me

I went to my buddies Gun Shop hoping to pick up a good scope for my 300 WSM.

Ended up getting a new rig.

    Rifle:
    DPMS LR308

    Upgrades:
    VISM MLok Handguards
    Black Rain Ordinance Trigger
    BCM Gunfighter pistol grip
    Single point sling attachment

    Scope:
    Vortex Viper HST
    6-24 X 50

    Rings:
    Seekins Precision

The gunsmith also mounted my picatinny rail section to the scope so I can attach my new Sniper Hawg Light 66LRX.

Why a sad day you say.

    I really liked my 300WSM.
I got it to shoot 1k yards.
Haven’t shot it more than 300yds and that was 1 time.

I wanted something bigger than 5.56 to shoot Pigs & Deer.
I liked the 5.56 too, killed almost everything I shot.
Hoping to cut down on tracking. Longest track on a deer was 40 yds, 73 on a pig that was heart shot.

Downfall is there’s a kid I know that wants to go hunting the new rifle might be a bit much for him

AR-10's don't hardly kick at all. He should do just fine. The downside to any of them I've ever been around is they're heavy as all get out.

Pretty much sums it up! Mine is a tack driver with Hornady premium with the Leupold Mark 4 LR/T... but DANG it's heavy!

It feels lighter, but not as balanced as Savage is er was.

I picked up two boxes of Hornady Full Boar 165 gr GMX to try.
Now to get it sighted in...

A while back I took my grandpas LR-308 hog huntin. His has a heavy barrel on it. You talk about a beast of a rifle. Good gun for sitting in a blind with but I guarantee you I wouldn't be carrying it through the sandhills around here to shoot coyotes with unless I wanted a hardcore workout. I free hand shot a few steel plates with it and that in itself was a workout.

                  Update:

Just spent another $615 on this gun last week.
I feel like I'm trying to make it more like my Savage 12BVSS 300WSM. Which it'll never be.
I haven't had it the range yet so the jury's still out.

                  Upgrades:
                  Barrel: 18” DSG Match Grade .308 1:10

Handuard: Midwest Industries 15" free Float

                  Gas Block: Seeking Adjustable

                  Charging Handle: BCM Gas buster

Did you consider just buying the Savage MSR 10? It's 7.8 pounds right out the box
