Lol!! Funny thing about that dog. A few years back we were going on a hunting trip here and I needed a new sleeping bag. I asked my wife to just pick one up for me and she did. So I get here with my sleeping bag in front of my buddies and roll it out and unzip it and that stuffed dog is in there. My wife swears she had nothing to do with it, but I don't believe her. So now the dog just lives in my sleeping bag and goes on every trip I go on.

Thanks!! I got my tripod set up on the corn route. Anything coming down the sendero will be under 15 yards.

All you can see is part of the brush holder on the back, but deer coming from the front won't see it because of my body. From the back and side you can't see it at all. I'll see how the hunt goes this evening, if it's a problem I'll add some more brush. Tripods are new to me but I think it looks pretty good. About to go back to camp and shoot a few arrows and hang out with Bo. He will start the corn route around 2, so I'll get in the stand around 2. It'll be a long sit this evening.

Lol!! I guess I'm about to shower and get ready to go. This is gonna be a long sit!! But I wanna be in the stand when the corn buggy comes by. It won't get dark until about 5 hours after that though.

It's unbelievably hot. I should have worn sunscreen!! I rode with Bo for part of the corn route but I'm in the stand now. Been here about 45 min or so. One other Hunter came in last minute and he's in 6.

Just a doe and yearling this evening. I heard some pigs but they never came in. I'll hunt the same spot in the morning, but the wind is supposed to switch late morning from NW to SE so I'll have to move after the morning hunt. Not sure on exactly what I'll do. If I find a good spot nearby for the tripod I'll set it up, if not I'll build a brush blind.

It was cool enough this morning that I turned the heater on in the cabin when I got up. I'm gonna head out pretty soon. This is the first hunt of the season for me that it actually feels like deer season outside!'

Well I got set up for the evening hunt. Moved to a brush blind on the corn route. The wind will be perfect and I'll be able to see a lot of area, but I'm within 15 yards or so of the road. I'll have some hand corn out too, but they may or may not get on it before I have to leave. I'm having a blast either way, I love this part of the country. Other than freezing in the mornings and almost melting in the afternoon that is. Anyway, here's a pic of my blind from about 10 yards away.

Me too!! I could use the company!! Kinda quit down here. Still seeing deer, and a oh this evening I couldn't get a shot at. Just no bucks to speak of. I did see several coyotes this evening and almost got a shot at one but he busted me. One hunt left, we'll see what happens in the morning.

Yep getting ready for the last morning!! I'll be back for a week in November, so I'm gonna sit for a little while then do a little walking around and try to get more familiar with this pasture and maybe slip up on a javi or a pig. It's hard to really learn one of these pastures in 2 days, but I try to come here somewhat regularly so I like to spend at least one morning or evening just watching senderos and walking and scouting on every trip. If I'm staying a week I usually do it the first evening, but I didn't this time because I wasn't gonna be here long so I'm gonna do it this morning. I'll be out until about 900, then come back and load up and try to be headed home by 10 or a little after.

If it hadn't been for that bow coming, I might have stayed another day!! I had a great trip and saw lots of critters like always down there, just didn't connect. But in a month I'll be headed back for a little longer hunt.

Well....I'm about to hop in the shower and then head to the blind. I'm shooting my new bow well so I'm gonna take it. I'm hunting the pop up where that buck in the pic was, because it's all I have for this SE wind. It's gonna be hot. With that said I also had some does and a spike coming in right at dark last week, so I'm not hunting that buck specifically. I'll shoot a doe for sure, and may shoot that spike too, but he's young so I'm not 100% sure. But I am trying to get my first trad deer so....he better not give me a lot of time to think on it if I see him.

I hunted this morning, and probably got out too early at about 8:45, but I'm frustrated from not seeing anything. I got all my feeders filled and sprayed wasps again in my box stands, and moved some cameras around. This evening I'm taking my shotgun and hitting the creek bottom to kill some squirrels. I'm not throwing in the towel on bow hunting yet, but as slow as it's been, I'm taking a break for sure. Still have another trip to First Point next month, but other than that unless things change significantly here in the next couple weeks I'm switching to the boomstick and filling tags.

^ unfortunately a self injury has caused me to do the same. Boom stick in two weeks, drawing a bow right now feels like I'm being pulled into.
Be it rifle or arrow, venison in the freezer is hard to beat.
