Well, we shot a couple of does this weekend and I shot a really old 11pt that we've seen going on 5 years. The deer still aren't hitting the feeders and there are acorns everywhere still. Several of us got skunked on multiple sits. Very slow weekend for hunting but we were still able to help reduce the population a little bit.

Just got back from my second hunt, I've done 8 days so far this year and have seen deer every time. Yea, there are a ton of acorns but in the NE corner of the county they are still hitting the corn and I've seen quite a few deer hitting the volunteer wheat out in the fields. Unfortunately, our axis have seemed to disappeared.

Horns appear to be above average with good mass, the deer are fat, but not seeing as many yearlings as I expected. Still waiting for the big boys to show and have seen only a few 5.5+ deer so far. I'll be going back down Wednesday and hoping when it gets in the 30's this weekend that things will really kick start.

Hunted a couple of hunts this weekend and the activity was up a tad. Still a lot of acorns on the ground and the deer are browsing more than going to feeders. Two straight weeks of no rain and it is really dry again.

Tomorrow morning should be much better than today as the wind is a little much. You are going to see deer movement improve substantially this weekend as bucks are beginning to stir a little.
Adios,

It was cool last Sunday morning, the older bucks were alone but the youngers were still hanging out and playing tough. I did see a lot more activity than the past few prior weekends and acorns are turning brown. Had 1 good buck that would not leave a doe’s side. Where she went we tagged along. The goods about to start gett’n, can’t make this weekend due to daughters softball but good luck to you all.

Adios,
Gary
I hunted 3 times this past weekend and I am amazed at the buck activity. The cold weather had them on their feet and scent checking does. I saw 6 bucks 3 years old or better in 2 sits on Friday evening and Saturday morning. In addition, one was a beautiful 5 year old 8 that I decided to pass. It was a good thing, because after all the activity, I decided to take a doe late on Saturday morning. At the shot, it hit her good behind the shoulder and a little high, bit the arrow did not go all the way through? I never found a speck of blood despite watching her exit with an arrow in her. I am sick and very frustrated. I have a new bow, so I am going to be doing a ton of practice before next time. I am also questioning my broad head. I have used fixed blade Muzzy's for 15 years, but it is extremely frustrating that I could not find any blood with that shot. Good luck to all of you guys.

It is raining here this morning but looks like we missed most of the rain as it is further north for now. It has cooled off and down in the 40's for highs today. It is supposed to warm up into the 60's tomorrow. I expect there to be quite a bit of rutting activity this weekend.

Going up this Sunday for 5 days. Been seeing a lot of deer. Got one nice buck with the bow an had a lot more shots if wanted. But the deer don’t always stand the right ways lol. I know where I’m at in Menard the rut starts around next week. Anyone seeing signs of rut? Been two weeks since I been up. The smoke pole is coming out to play now.

Few younger bucks chasing and fighting a little bit. Older bucks don’t seem to have much interest yet. Sat down at 3 today and had a few move though early. Very windy here today.

A lot of deer coming to the feeders. Mostly younger bucks though.
I saw one very large axis cruise by me as I was driving into a blind area. LOL
I’ll try to give it another shot after Thanksgiving.

Looks like Divine processing opened up in the old mechanic shop. I saw the sign and people going in. Didn’t stop though since I didn’t have anything to drop off.

Watch out when you’re driving through town, the sheriff has been at the bridge every time I’ve driven by these last few days.

We are on the San Saba river as well in Menard County. Have only seen a couple of axis over the past couple of ears. They come and go. I wish we could get them to stay. Going out there next week to remove some does and hopefully rattle up a big old bruiser 8pt.

Terrible hunt this am for the 4 of us that are out here.
I saw 3 does on the move, and 2 bucks 400 yds off, also on the move.
Skunked last night as well.

Great pics on cam, but mostly at night.

Same happened to me yesterday morning and the morning before. Just saw a couple deer on the move. Nothing stopping at the feed pen. Back at home now. Hopefully the few days of rest will let them calm down a bit. We will be back up there Wednesday night

Slow morning here,5 does came through earlier with a spike in tow. Then a baby 8 pushed a doe through.

My wife had two racked bucks chase does all over her area earlier then it went blank, now has a spike and a six feeding lazily.

So I guess they are somewhat moving over here.

Just got back from a 5 day hunt with my son on our new lease. We saw deer every sit. Lots of young bucks and some up and comers. Saw more buck cruising than at the feeder. Does we池e sour and about only came to the pen twice.

Saw bucks chasing nearly every sit. Mostly younger and intermediate bucks- but activity is definitely increasing.

Good luck to those heading out this weekend. Wish I could be back for another 5 days.
