With Mccullers and Keuchel coming back from injury we should be good. Martes, D-Vo, and Musgroves are all going to push for a rotation spot. I wouldn't be against a 6 man rotation to start the year to give our guys more rest. Our bullpen is fine, we struggled with the closer spot last year but that is over. Hinch announced Giles is the closer, I think the reassurance will be good for him. His second half wasn't bad. Will Harris will likely be our 8th inning guy, but Gregerson could do that as well. Sipp will hopefully bounce back, look for Gustave to be in the bullpen down the stretch.

Surprised to see Hinch say EITHER Kuechel OR McCullers would start opening day depending on how they did in spring training.

I'm not, both of those guys want it, make them earn it. Don't get me wrong, I think Kuechel is the better of the two, but they both sucked last year. I think it should be open to any starter.

Got a chance to watch and do a little more 'research' on the old Cuban..
I still think hes 40+ .. , still don't think hes worth $40+M , but I do think...
IF he can stay healthy.. he'll be a asset. (yes I said it...)
I hope he can...
this was the peak year they've been building towards... wont get any better than this for this group. (most definitely wont be getting any cheaper...)

All the pieces are there (hopefully with some pitching additions to be named later)..
Go Stros!

I don't think the SP will hold up either. I think the Astros front office knows this and that's why they didn't pull the trigger on any of the TOR pitchers that were available since that trade would have seen our depth at pitcher evaporate. I think we are going to need Musgrove and Martes to come up big time by the end of the year.

Best case scenario is one or two of our young pitchers forcing their way into the rotation with a healthy Keuchel and McCullers.

I think Luhnow thinks this team will be in contention, if not leading the division at the trade deadline. I believe this is when he will bring in a veteran pitcher. Musgrove or Martes could alter that but I still think he makes a trade for an established veteran pitcher near the trade deadline.

Anyone remember last year that the Astros put Keuchel and McCullers on an individualized throwing program in the offseason and during Spring Training? You remember how that worked out for both pitchers last season? Well this year they added McHugh to the program as well......guess who already has a sore shoulder and dead arm?

I will be glad when all of the players are done with the WBC and get back to the team. Bregman specifically isnt getting much playing time. He finally got a start today and went 2-3 with a walk.

Looks like Morton is going to be very helpful in the rotation if he can stay healthy. For a number 4 or 5 starter he will be great. McHugh is probably going to start the season on the DL according to Hinch. He was put on a personalized throwing program by the Astros like they did with Keuchel and McCullers last year. I hope it works out better for him than it did those 2 last season. Opening day is getting close!

I'd like to see what that program consists of... should've been people fired over it based on its past results

Like I said before.. if gramps Cuban does well and doesn't need hip replacement by mid season I will reverse my opinion and say I was wrongish about him.
I will cheer for him in the meantime, mostly because I'm forced to...he's on the team... got a jersey with his name on it and everything...
They even put ramps in the dugout for him.
We'll see how he does at first... even though we know who's spots he really wants..

Shopping for tickets for the last series of the year at Fenway. The wife wanted a long weekend trip without kids in Sept. so I did what any good husband would do and looked at the Stros' schedule for suitable destinations. Hope it means something but checking off Fenway won't be so bad if it doesn't.
