No luck brother. Next weekend if I get a chance I would like to try a new area. After the tough sets this weekend I am going to check out a stabilizer light. I'm thinking a night hunt would bring a little luck. Did you get a hunt in over the weekend?

Was out on unit 11 earlier this evening and saw a lot of these near the base of trees. Also found a young hog skull.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get out this weekend, had some yard work that needed to be done. I'm going to try to get out there this weekend though, maybe Saturday morning.

I'll probably divide my time between bow and shotgun. I work in Melissa, so the shotty would be great for those areas north of 380, where it's permitted.
Does anyone have some good info on some non-lethal slugs for a smooth bore 12? I've only come across 2 or 3 on this interweb thingy!

Good luck to those who made it out this morning. I sure didn't want to get up but glad I did. There is fresh rooted up ground and tracks around my tree. Just need one to step out now.

I didn't have much luck but it was a nice day for a long sit. Found a new place that makes for a perfect brush blind with a ton of fresh sign around. I just need someone to fill in this week so I can get a little more time in the stand.

Lavon Lake has a new Master Plan for the properties around the lake that will affect future resources. I'd suggest you look further into it if you hunt there to see what those changes are. Whitney is doing the same thing. And I have been studying their plan today. And how it will or could affect the hunting there. All of the lands there have been reclassified. Some of the lands there will be purposed to fall into the "new classifications".

Rules state "no baiting"... but, 2nd hand info said a Ranger told them they don't mind...

Well, I did a little walk in today, just for a little scouting. Since it was my first time out, and i didnt have a lot of daylight left, I "thought" I would find an "easy" way on to hunting land. Soooo, I drove on in to Twin Groves Park, @ the south end of area 6. This did not put me very close to the actual hunting land, but I took to wandering toward the line. There were a ton of tracks and rooted ground between the parking @ the boat ramp and the actual hunting area. But, I don't think where the area begins gives the 1000 feet buffer. But, like I said, there is a TON of tracks in that area!

I haven't found any mention of baiting in the rules. The woman at the lake office when I got my permit a few weeks ago said have at it when I asked her. I guess I will check with a ranger since they're going to be the ultimate authority.

Lol, I stand corrected! I can't find it in the policy, I must have been off in la-la land thinking of something else! Thank you!

Called yesterday to verify slug types allowed, and they are supposed to be non-toxic, so I ended up ordering 1 of each of these:

Got a pretty good deal on them, PM me for info.

Not too sure I like the sound of "Environmentally Sensitive Areas". Sounds like they're leaving a way to shut down these areas. One of them is my main squirrel spot too.

I am worried myself. The spot where I have been hunting hogs the past few weekends will soon be shutdown as well. "High Density Recreation Area". Which is odd because I have not seen anyone in that area yet...

The ESA's are not being shut down to hunting "yet". I'm thinking these area's are probably holding the most deer. Property owner's around there don't want anyone messing with them. I know the area I squirrel hunt in holds some really nice deer.

Walked 9 and 11 Sunday evening. Found LOTS of fresh sign, and some good trails. Also ran across a fancy homemade tree stand and a trail cam.

My son and I were in south part of unit 8 yesterday. Plenty of sign, but in 4 hunts 6 and 8 we have not seen anything. Heard some deer snort once a ways off but that is it. Where do you park when you hunt 6? We may run into each other.

Sat in my climber in zone 2 around 630pm. Someone drove an ATV all the way back into the woods and proceeded to build something for about an hour about 60 yards from me then drove around lost until we finally flashed with a light and scared him. Pointed him back to the road He apologized and was nice and assuming he had no idea that it's a pretty serious violation to have any vehicle back here. We never found what he built assuming a stand then he drove on back to Bridgefarmer. Saw some pigs around 9 but they were skiddish and circled around us for about an hour. Fun and interesting night.

i go to Zone 2 a lot since it's close to my house. that big opening where the little pond is has shown a lot of activity. you can see the tracks/trails where they're coming in.

Simple GPS coordinates to the office via their web sight/e-mail and that should be taken care of by some of the staff. If not, send it to the district office and they will make sure the project manager gets it taken care of . If it's not stopped now, feeders will be going up next. I've seen this type of behavior to many times to know in my 30+ years of hunting ACE lands. I'd sure hate to see yall fellers loose some hunting grounds out there.

I could not agree with you more TG. This past season I hunted lake Aquila and it is a huge problem out there.

It was hard to get out of a warm bed this morning but I have found myself in a cedar. I'm thinking ldps by lunch..

I sent over the coordinates as soon as I got back to the truck. This guy had a trail cam set up that wasn't locked down and there was another stand about 200 yd south of this one overlooking a shallow creek.

I started hunting Whitney this past season. Dad just built a house south of Cedron creek. I was thinking about trying my luck on gobblers down there next month.

It's iHunt by Ruger. It also does weather, activity logs, comes with some game calls, and you can link it to Bluetooth speakers.

Struck out. Saw 4 or 5 but Alexis's allergies kick in and she was sneezing too much. We had fun though.
