We have been very busy. A little down time this week and then it picks up next week. As many Soldiers that come through the SRP site you wouldn't think there is any drawdown anytime soon.

Finally put enough dirt under my shoes that I came across some hogs during the day today. Wish I would have had my shotgun. Got my adrenaline going a bit when the big boar stopped, looked at me and snorted. Dont think my pocket knife would have won that battle!

Well, at least you saw something. Gives you incentive to keep heading out. I like that snort they make (almost as much as the squeal they make when you stick them).

Anybody know if tomorrow is a training holiday or not. Thinking about maybe going to the lake, but if it's a TH I'll just stay home. The lake is not the place to be on week ends or holidays. All the crazies are out.

That snort is just a general warning telling and piggies in the area to get out of Dodge. Don't know what they do if they decide to come after you. Never had one do it. Kind of like what people should do, don't waste anytime talking, just shoot.

Ahhh, life is good. Live in Chinese chef just whipped up a batch of gar steaks, cole slaw, sweet and sour cucumbers with some fresh baked pecan pie for desert. Gonna chow down, put some Jim Ed Brown on the Bose (old fart music), Have a couple Shiner Kosmos Reserve's and tell her what a good cook she is

Gar is good ... just like halibut. Good smoked too. Skin em, don't even try to fillet em.

I had gar before and it is really white meat with no fishy taste. If I remember correctly, don't they have like a sinew running up and down along the filet. Im pretty sure the meat was real flakey and we rolled it into balls and fried. Of course this was on a four foot gar I caught about 15 years ago.

A fellow TBHer hooked me up with a package he got at a fund raiser, he said he wasn't gonna use it, and said if I was interested, I could have it. Going thru Bowfishing Addiction.

Gonna try to talk the wife into going to video the fun. Should be interesting.

Then hurry up and get it out so I can set up there. LOL The pigs I saw yesterday were coming from that direction. Figured a few had met their demise out of that stand.
Don't work too hard. haha

Well the Texas wildfire smoke has made it to the house. Hope the smell doesn't effect the pig slaying this weekend.

Won't bother them a bit (the deer either).

Just transfering some vinyl lp's to mp3's and ran across this one. The best I had ever heard it done was by some Philipino's on Gordon Ave in Olongopo City (they did substitute "San Miguel" for "Shiner" though) Jerry Jeff Walker doesn't do it half bad either. Looked 'er up on Youtube ... here ya go.

I'm sure there will be a few spots. Matt and Ed are always forthcoming with hog reports and will get up pointed in the right direction.

Just don't ask Matt for the grid coordinates for his 180" buck that he has tied up already for this year.

So would I. Matt has his heart set on getting a big buck off of Hood. If anyone can do it, it will be Matt. I don't think the GW spends more time in the woods then Matt.

The bucks are there, they don't get big by being stupid.

Looks like you will have your chance this fall. Only 44 more days until you get back (if I remember the number from a previous post).

Like the others said, scout and have backup plans. Worst thing about hunting Hood is finding a sweet setup and then having the area closed.

Shameless plug .... All you gotta do is join the club and you've got a spot. The club has a "community" stand.

Yep, getting down there in days. Man I can't wait... Plan on spending some time with the family, then hit the woods hard as I can.
