Green green green. Thatís the story for Mexico this year. Iíve never seen the ranch this green. Going to make things tough this year. I will more than likely concentrate my efforts to January. Gun check in went smooth. Just a heads up for anybody who crosses at PN. The Y at HW 2 and the turn off to go to Guerrero has a military check point. We had to pull all the guns out and go through the typical circus. All paperwork was in place and on we went. Itís inconvient, but Iím glad they do it.

Yeah they had that one set up in late August as well. Maybe its a permanent deal now? We are about halfway between Nava and Guerrero, so we went back the other way through Nava to avoid that potential stop.

I hunted a different area last year, but, the year before the military was there most of the times I passed through there. They were just south of the Y.

They use to have that check point then it would be gone. They have set up a more permanent check point now.

Could probably sell him if I had someone who wanted to pay for him. I really don't want to get into dealing with package hunts.

Do any of y'all currently hunt or have hunted near the Lampazos de Naranjo, NL area? I am eager to go check out a ranch down there sometime during the hunting season. I was just curious the quality of deer in that region. I've hunted near Sabinas-Hidalgo before, and I'd expect it to be pretty similar to that, backing up to some pretty high hills.

I hunted there for a few years. Haven't been to that area in about 3 years. Lots of huge ranches back in there between lampazos and progreso. Wide open country for as far as you can see. Biggest free ranging buck I've ever seen was back in there. Be ready for a drive. Reason we decided to get something closer was a good friend of mine was bit 10 times by a black widow while he was sleeping. Had to rush him to Laredo hospital where he spent 4 days in icu. Venom speacialist that treated him said another hour and he probably wouldn't have made it. That was enough to make us decide to get a place closer. If that wouldn't have happened we would still be there. Care to disclose the name of the ranch? We were on San Juan. Next to San Patricio, el jabali, palo blanco, monte verde and la Botija.

Old rock house up on a hill? We actually hunted 3 joining ranches all owned by the same guy. San Juan, Oro and casa Blanca. We just referred to the 3 combined as San Juan. 33,000 acres total

Cats, bears, the check point and having to get the vehicle permit is why we got off. Beautiful ranch though.

Yeah the permit and second checkpoint was a hassle. You almost had to go for a long trip to make it worth the trouble and the drive. Wouldn't mind going back some day but at the time the black widow incident was a bit of a wake up call to some of the possible dangers there are from being a long ways from the border that might get overlooked.

speaking of bears and cats, our old lease west of Sabinas just sent me these. The lions are cool, but a resident population will absolutely kill any hopes of deer management.

That's your hunting agreement. It wont necessarily have the same date as your gun permit.

The permit itself has its own dates.
