So there is a nice young 9 point I have been watching and have ton of video of. He will be a stud next or even bigger the next! We hunt 1200 acres, guys south of us, and west of us hunt about 3,000 acres a piece. They all to be “management minded” hunters and only kill mature deer. Well I text the guys south of us. He said they have shot a lot of spikes and does. Well come to find out one if there members shot the buck I have been watching.

So the question I have now. I’m seeeing a nice I’m thinking 4.5 year old buck. Do y’all think I should kill him, or just pray to god the neighbors don’t kill him. I know your thinking it’s just one deer they have killed. But when you tell somebody one thing and do another it’s frustrating. Anyways here are pictures of him. With it being Christmas all them will be down there. I’ve seen him around 4 times total in person! Just don’t know what to do

Sucks but it’s part of having neighbors. If he makes you happy kill him. You know he won’t make it if you do, I’d let him go.

roughly 7000 ac between all of yall and so far only mention of 1 buck killed you might wish had not been.
Definitely not a big deal. And no, dont kill something just because you think someone else might.
Kill it if you want to kill it

I just donít understand how you could be p/oíd if they shot a legal deer on their lease????? Makes no sense to me. If they shot it on yíalls property, then there would be reason to be mad!

I say congrats to the other hunter, and if you like the one you think is 4.5, then shoot him. If he is not what you are looking for, them let him walk.

Price you pay for low fence. If you are killing them young, there’s even less chance for you to get one.

If you are trophy hunting then you're doing it wrong.

You can't force your low fence neighbors to follow your management program. If you truly want to trophy hunt, suck it up, pay up and get on a trophy managed high fence lease. Or at least one well managed and much, much larger than 1200 acres.

It's a deer, and it's Christmas Eve. Step back and look at things in a different perspective. There is every reason in the world to be happy and you choose to be upset about another mans decision that apparently made him happy.

There are plenty more out there and will be plenty more in the future.

Lifes too short to get bent out of shape over a deer.

Shoot what makes you happy, play the game if you let him go.

If all you care about shooting is a trophy, get on a HF lease.

If it were me i'd congratulate him and move on. Too many other things to be worried about in life than a deer. Like others have said, its low fence and you are obviously looking at shooting older deer and letting them grow. I believe your neighbors are too, they are just not wanting them to get as old as you want them. Good luck on the remainder of the year.

I know how you feel the lease hunters next to me does the same thing. It upsets me but not much I can do about it. If they shoot an old mature deer it's ok but when they kill a 2.5 or 3.5 with all the potential it bothers me. I feed all year and they show up a few weeks before the season and fill their feeders and sounds like a war zone on opening day. That's hunting that's why high fences were built in the first place.

Have you spent any time sharing pictures of the exact deer you are passing and letting the neighbors know how old each one is? You can absolutely grow big deer on low fence and 1,000 Acres. It just takes cooperation with your neighbors and everyone's willingness to let deer get old.

If ur a "trophy hunter" then why are u even considering shooting that other buck? He's much smaller than the other buck and only a 4.5 year old 8 pt. At that point ur no better than them. What if they have been watching that deer the same as u we're watching the other one???? Just sayin......and merry Christmas by the way

I’d stick to your management plan. Feed heavy and try to keep pressure at a minimum, keeping them bucks close by. That’s about all you can do. I wouldn’t get too worked up over it though.

You passed him, the other gent didn’t. He looks tickled to death. Free range deer roam and things happen. The other deer seems smaller than the one harvested. Personally, I would take a cull if you can’t locate a target buck. Chill and be thankful to be able to hunt where you do. Life is too short to be bitter over this.
