Default Prayers for my grandma.

The woman who raised me from the time I was 5 years old is in need of some prayers right now. Her kidneys are failing and isn't expected to make it through the weekend. Hospice has stepped in and they're doing all they can to make her as comfortable as possible and I'll be there with her until whatever happens, happens. She's been there for me throughout my life so I owe it to her to be there for her.

I stayed with her in the hospital last weekend until she was released. Her body is basically being poisoned so she had a rough few nights hallucinating and hollering for help throughout the night. She told my aunt "He looked me in the eyes and told me he loves me." Today she didn't even know who I was. At least she remembered that I love her. And I hope she remembers it until she leaves.

She raised me up to be the person I am today. Without her there ain't no tellin where I'd be or what I'd be like. There ain't nothin I could ever do to repay her. She didn't have to take me in and raise me but she did. She's the best woman I've ever known and my life won't ever be the same without her. If y'all could say a prayer for her I'd appreciate it.

It's been a rough few weeks. And it's gonna get rougher for all of us.

I feel like 24 years with her wasn't near long enough. This is gonna be the hardest weekend of my life. No doubt about it.

I stood by her bed today and looked around the room and everyone there was crying except me. That's one thing that's bothered me. I don't understand it. Her health took a turn for the worse so dang fast it's just hard to process it maybe. I want to cry and be sad but I know if she was able to she'd tell me to quit bawling. She'd want me to be strong. I couldn't bring myself to cry in front of her. I don't quite understand how I'm feeling.

To give you an idea of the kind of person she is, her husband was killed in 1977 by two guys that he was trying to help. She was never remarried and talks about him to this day. I asked her about the guys that shot him once and how she feels about them. She said she's forgiven them for what they did. Losing him affected her for the rest of her life but she still forgave the people that took the love of her life away.

She's gonna go to Heaven to see my great grandpa and her mom and dad and brothers and sisters. She's as good as gold I guarantee ya. If she don't make it to Heaven we all need to be worried. Because we probably won't make the cut either.

I remember asking her about death at one point. Although I was young I understood what it felt like to be alone. I knew she was all I had at that point in my life and I was scared of being alone. She told me she was gonna die someday but we wouldn't worry about it until the time comes. It don't even seem real that, that time is growing nearer.

It's funny the things that I can remember being that young. I remember the first night I stayed at her house. She left the bathroom light on next to my bedroom so I wouldn't be scared. She told me she "sprayed for ghosts." So I wouldn't worry about any of those things. She spoiled me rotten. And whooped me when I needed it,which was pretty often. For a long time she was all I had. And I was all she had. It's hard seeing a person that was always strong in such a helpless place in their life. There ain't no way to prepare yourself for that.

I better get ready. Cause it's happening ready or not.

When my grandpa passed a few months ago people gave me a hard time for not being more sad. I was plenty sad but I never cried and only thought about the good times with him. He was sick for quite a while before he passed and although I didn’t want him to die I wanted his suffering to end more. My reaction bothered me for a while until a buddy asked me if my grandpa was selfish.

I said absolutely not and asked why he’d ask such a question. He said he knew the answer and it was obvious he instilled upon me a similar quality - he said being ok that he’s pain free and resting in heaven is just not being selfish. That’s simply how my grandpa taught me to be and that I was just remembering good times and not being sad about his transition to heaven. My buddy reminded how well grandpa had raised me.

Seems like you might be in a similar situation.

She sounds like a special lady, and she imposed her goodness on you, and you have realized that. I's say that was a win. It hurts when we lose our loved ones, but it is part of like. We all die, but that realization does not make it any easier. How old is she?

I appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers and kind words y'all. It's been a rough month all around. One kind of bad news after another. It's actually gotten to the point I'm thinking about going and getting tested for HIV just so I can have some positive news in my life. Because I'm pretty sure I don't have HIV.

I believe you're right. I feel the same way. I don't want her to go but I don't want to see her in pain either. It's a double edged sword really.

She's at the point now she's not saying much or acknowledging that I'm here. She won't answer me or anything but she's awake. I can see she's in a little bit of pain and there's nothing I can do. I hate having to see this. I hope in my lifetime I never have to go through this again or be in the situation she's in right now.

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate y'all.
