Best Scope Under $250 for Budget Build?

    I am building a budget “custom” .243.

    Well it’s custom to me.

It’s a New Savage Axis Heavy Barrel in .243.

Now mounted on a Boyd Thumbhole Stock.

I have already put in a Timney Trigger.

I am trying to pick the best optic for it.

I will be dropping it off for cerakoting this week.

The scope will also be cerakoted to match.

With current money in and plus cerakote I want to keep the cost of scope and rings around $250. $300 would the absolute top end.

    Prefer a 44mm or 50mm

    No less than a 10x

    I know this is specific.

What’s your recommendation for this budget build optic?

Skip cerakote and up your glass budget. You can always get it painted later and there’s no resale value in cheap optics if you want to upgrade.

The Leupold Freedom bar none for low light, don’t know what flavors they come in, maybe not your specs.

I agree with this. But if I had to respect the exercise I'd look at a Nikon Prostaff P5 2.5-10x42 for $229.

Personally, I'd look around and find a good used leupold in the classifieds. Since you plan to cerakote you may be able to find something that is dinged up for a good deal.

I agree with the Leupold Freedom or the Redfield Revolution. Which is also made by Leupold. American made, great warranty and perform great for the price bracket they are in.

A used Leupold VXII, or VXIII, if you can find a III in your budget. Lifetime warranty, too.

Personally. I've never had a need for better glass than Nikon provides. I'm just a hunter and normally don't shoot beyond 350 yards and a 2.5 to 10 fits my needs.

Nikon ProStaff 4-14x is all you need. Sure, you can spend more. But, why?
