Default Luling City Market

I can honestly say that the bbq at this place blows. I guess they only take cash so you can't stop payment on the meal. Got half a pound of brisket and pork ribs and they were both dry. Sauce is nothing special. At the risk of getting beat down by Bob, Rudy's has better bbq. Scratch this one off my list.

Good thing Bucee's is just down the road and has clean bathrooms cause I unloaded that meal as fast as I could.

That church on the south side of town that gives out free taco meals on Tuesday evenings probably has better food than the city market.

I didn't think it was that bad. I didn't think it was anything special though. Now Pecan Lodge, that one was not good. Not sure how PL made the top 50 back in 2017.

First time in city market it was great. Next/last trip was terrible!! Haven't been back since. BBQ is too expensive to eat bad BBQ.

So OP is talking about the Houston location? I was about to get really sad if he was talking about the place in Luling. All I have heard is great things about that one.

City Market in Luling was about the best around. they go on the food network and started getting very busy about 4-5 years ago. Everything changed. Cant say I would recommend it anymore. Hopefully Mrs Snow in Lexingon does not change her methods.

Great ribs the one time I went - but those can be had lots of places. Brisket was dry and tasted like pot roast. I won't be going back. I'll head up the road to Black's instead ...

I have to agree. Used to eat City Market all the time but now I go to Blacks only. Eat there about every other week and you can't beat their beef ribs.

X2.
When I lived in Houston I would take the family through and grab some Q to go. Staff never was overly friendly but the Q was good.
Now living in Austin there're lots of good Q options.

It's been about a year since I have been. It was very good still. Brisket, ribs and sausage. Got the same at the place down a block due to a friends recommendation. Said it was far superior. It was absolutely horrible. At that point I said I would make my own decisions because people are weird. Lol.

City Meat Market in Luling used to be the place to go when I was going to school in SWTSU, but sadly it's not anymore. My son and I ate there not too long ago and the brisket was more fat than meat, the sausage was so greasy and was not the flavor of years past.

I don't know what happened to the place, they had a bird's nest on the ground, but I'm sure that tourists will continue to stop but most I think won't make the same mistake twice.

Sad.

**** I've been to LCM a couple of times and each time it was great. Brisket (flat and the point pieces), ribs and sausage...

Usually folks tell you to drive right past Lockhart to get to LCM.... hopefully you got a bad batch or your taste buds suck..

Same here...we ate there yesterday for lunch and it was far from good bbq. The caseing on the sausage was so tough and greasy the plastic knife wouldn’t cut all the way through. The ribs were covered in sauce to cover up the over cooked exterior I assume as they weren’t that great either. The only thing good was the beans.

I think you get alot of people that are a bit jealous of the history of the meccas and the availability of top quality bbq in the area. They want their favorite spot in east, north, south or west Texas to be better than the "overrated" top spots in central Texas. They try to find a reason why it's not good.

Meh, it's not that great. "Random" BBQ joint in the town by be is much better.

It's not.

Lmao. That's how sausage is supposed to be. You are used to store bought sausage. The sausage at German meat markets is course ground. The casing has "pop" to it and is pretty greasy.

That wasn't sauce on the ribs. Thats the apple juice and brown sugar spritzer. Love that style of ribs.

Not sure what kind of tough sausage you eat then. We make our own and Iíve had plenty of good bbq sausage that didnít need the grease rung out of it or a sharp saw to get through the casing.

Someone predicted well that you would be along shortly to defend your over rated bbq spot. Sometimes other places are just better regardless of what a magazine writer said.

Hopefully you don't or your BBQ sucks. I mean you only have to tend to one piece of meat and baby it to make it great....they have to tend to hundreds to feed hundreds and try to turn a profit doing it......

I used to go to Luling almost 4 to 5 times a month for 10 years. Stopped going 3 years ago. Luling City Market was hit and miss on many occasions. Really good BBQ restaurants have to be consistent all the time.

I haven't eaten at LCM in a few weeks but the ribs and links were still good then. Intended to stop there yesterday en route from Rockport to Austin but the line was too long so I went to Blacks and it's still good too, I actually prefer Blacks garlic link to LCM's link.

Luling bar b que across 183 is better in my opinion. Don't have to wear goggles to cut their sausage.

That's flavor. I lived in Luling when I was a kid, we call the LCM links "hot guts", it's a fitting name.
