If you are ever in Matagorda county and get a craving for Pho. Go to The Point in Palacios.
The best pho I've had. Make your meal a Vietnamese soup and sandwich, and try their
Banh Mi sandwich also.

Love it!
I eat it every chance I get.
In China town, Pho Dahn is my favorite.
In Katy it's Pho Saigon.

We recently tried a ramen house too. There's a distinct difference; I like them both.

You'd like the rare steak. It's very thinly sliced and the heat of the broth cooks it to perfection.

Yeah you'll see it with beef, chicken, tripe, tendon, meatball, brisket, fish, shrimp, etc. I ordered the fish once that had some weird fish meatball thing in it. I took a big ol' bite of it and it had a liquid center that was...not very pleasant. I guess it more surprised me that anything, but that was a 1 and done on that one.

Stick with the rare beef when you try it.

We had some here in Midland at a new place Pho Yo Eyes Only, man it sukkked. Meat was awful, hard, chewy best part was the chicken noodle soup part in it.

Anyone ever try balut? I used to work with a guy down in Galveston who’d eat it, basically an unhatched bird already growing feathers and beak, he’d also throw a cast net and then dry out mullet and shiner and whatever else he caught in the back window of his car, wouldn’t even gut em, the smell coming out his car was horrendous

We had a Vietnamese exchange student back in the early 00s.

We got turned on to Pho back then. She would ask me to take her to the a Vietnamese market so she could cook dinner for us. I got to the pooint that I would stay in the truck because the smell was so horrible.

There are some dishes I will eat and some...not so much!

Yes sir, Pho Garden. There is another one down by where the old Blockbuster used to be, I've heard it's good too but I always go to Pho Garden.

I'll have me a chicken vermicelli salad tomorrow after all this

I started eating pho in 1987. By the early 90’s I was eating Viet food up to 5 days a week. I have eaten pho in about a dozen states and I think the best was in a restaurant in Doraville, GA in the northeast Atlanta area. The line waiting for a table there on Sundays was out the door but I have had it at plenty of other good places.

I also like bun bo hue, banh mi bo kho, com thit nuong, bun thit nuong and a few other regulars.

A good pho has a lot of flavor in the broth usually from beef and simmered for hours, maybe even 14 or more. It can be made a lot quicker but it is like a good brisket. Slow and long brings out the flavor and like many good barbecue places, that distinguishes the great from the so-so.

Try a place that comes recommended by people.... especially if there are plenty of Viets there.

I went for the first time a while back and just got the combo soup without reading what was actually in it. I now know I don't like tripe, tendon, or whatever that other grissely thing was. Aside from that the rest of it was pretty good! I want to go back and get the chicken noodle next time.
