Went to Granger and only caught a Black. We went to the North creek in Sommeville and caught several whites and a few Gasspergoos

Guess its about time to start walking! I know the creeks in Somerville have plenty water in them right now, so that shouldnt be an issue this year. Good haul by the way.

Where are some public access points to the creeks? I mean, cant just go walking on private property. This is going to be my first year trying to catch whites

Anyone make a creek or lake suggestion near Crockett? Hoping to get to catch some on the fly rod this year.
Have you fished the Lock and Dam before? I've only been once, but still had a great time. It was a slow day according to the people fishing around us, and between the two of us, my dad and I still caught a 1-man limit.

Thanks for the info. Do you have to stay i side the banks? Or do the land owners let folks walk the creek bank?

Its all public land back there for the most part. Ive never had any issues and there are typically plenty folks fishing those creeks so you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

At Somerville The land of CR125 is public land but you need an AHP to go into the WMA and you need to pay a day use fee at Nail Creek SP to enter the state park land. And if you enter the WMA I believe you need to be wearing hunting orange. You might want to give the corps a call before you go to verify.

Erwin's bridge off of FM 1697/CR124 has an access point where you have to pay a day fee. Caught good whites and crappie there in the past. This is the Yegua Creek that flows into Somerville.

AHP? Good point about the hunter orange. They made a big deal of that last year or the year before. Walked them plenty times without and met wardens without issue. But it appears there may be a new sheriff in town out there enforcing it.

Annual Hunting Permit. You need to have it if you are on the Wildlife Management Area. I'm not sure if they enforce the hunters orange if you are fishing but since hog hunting is still going on they may. You might want to call the local GW to get clarification. I believe that is Lee County.

I just looked it up. Seems I spoke too soon. The Public Land booklet says no AHP required for fishing. But if you venture to the east (towards the lake) off CR 125 or going to Newman's Bottom, you are entering the state park and have to stop by Nails Creek SP to get a day use permit first. Good luck and post pics.

We might be able to make next weekend work. Leaving for San Antonio stock show tomorrow and show Monday. Might be able to hit the creek Sat morn or Sun morn. I will hit you up when I get back next week. One of those days I have to weld a front receiver hitch on a jeep for a fellow TBH'er but I should be available one day lol.

They make good fish tacos. Just cook the fillets in a skillet with butter until they get some color. Then kind of scramble them up, add some tony's and let the mix cook another minute or so. Make you some chipotel sour cream sauce to top it. Add some dry slaw for added texture.

Didn't have much time to fish yesterday but we managed to catch a few. Nothing to big. Water was low and barely moving where we were catching them. Drove to another spot further downstream and there was more water (wasn't moving there) but we couldn't get a bite.

I'm sure you're right about the crowd. I usually will launch my 16' boat at nails then head up the creek to avoid all the walk in traffic. Problem is if the fish are further upstream I can't get past all the fisherman.
