Default Backpack for Air Travel

I need a Backpack to hold my laptop when I travel for business. What have y'all found that works best and holds up but looks nice also.

I use this in black.

I can use it as a backpack or a briefcase, which I prefer for business travel. With this and a carry-on roller like this I can travel for a month or more.

I have a Columbia bag that can be used as a back pack or you can tuck the straps away and just use the handle like a laptop bag. I fly a lot and itís great. Oakley also makes good stuff.

What's your price range and size you're looking for? I really like my Hill People Gear bag if you don't need something corporate looking. Made in the USA!

I have a LowePro camera backpack that I use for flying. It has a padded slot for a laptop and the inside can be configured for about anything. I use it for any electronics and anything else I want to have on the plane. Carry-ons get checked to often.

Good thread - I look every year when I buy a new swiss gear pack, and always end up with basically the same back pack I carried in college.

probably time for an upgrade.

Have a Swiss backpack that I use and really like it. It’s probably 10 years old and still looks great. Separate laptop compartment that folds open with mesh for screening at checkpoints. Plenty of storage and comfortable to.

In......after at least 10 years, my daily carry bag gave up. It was a TavelPro and I don't see them making the same model. Similar to the Swiss gear, but I'm liking the Thule and the Topo Designs that Kevin posted.

Iíve used Swiss gear for the last 15 years. On my 3rd bag, and soon to replace it. Iím hard on bags as I carry all of my water test equipment with me and itís packed full. Havenít really found another bag to hold up as well as the Swiss.

This...I see more of these traveling than any other backpack. Iíve had one for 5+ years and itís still in good shape.

I like that topo bag a lot. I donít see it in black anymore but gonna order one as a new work bag.

Iíve had a bunch over the years and ogio is the best of what Iíve had for backpacks but my tumi briefcase was great too. I had a mountain hardware back that was good but really casual looking, a Cabelaís bad that was complete crap and I hated the built in frame. Canít seem to find a decent leather bag these days

I picked up a Swiss at Target(gasp!) for $35 and itís a great bag. I can got my work laptop, my 15Ē MacBook Pro and an iPad in the laptop compartment, this was my biggest concern, ease through security. There is plenty of storage in the other compartments and pouches for passports, etc. I also carry a back pillow and my Bose headphones case in it as well. For reference I travel to Indonesia and back on a monthly basis, I pack a lot of **** in this bag. Canít beat it for the price.

I have the Osprey Daylite Plus. It fits my mac. I like it because it fits under the seat in front of me and only counts as a personal item. It stores my laptop and is a versatile pack. I can still have a carry on bag and many times with this setup I do not need to check any luggage.

Another vote for osprey. I have the quasar and have really like it. Lightweight compared to my old Swiss bag. I used it for some international trips and was able to fit some clothes and toiletries along with my notebook. Allowed me to use my smaller carryon suitcase instead of checking a bag!

Northface Recon and Surge with the built in laptop sleeve works well

For botique brands:
Tom Bihn
Red Oxx

The two above don't have a built in laptop sleeve so you would have to buy a separate cover.

I have been using a Sitka Flash 20 as a carry on but it looks like it will be getting replaced soon

I live with my work laptop way more than i should. For years ive used a Timbuk2 pack. Got a new smaller laptop and switched to the Timbuk2 messenger type bag.. i like it even more. The materials used and quality of workmanship and stiching are really good. Here are a few good choices..

I like the Nellis Alpha Bravo pack but it is $$$$. I'm leaning to the Nebula pack from Osprey or a Everki Atlas Pack.
