Default Same odds as winning the powerball - Fun thread

Just for fun. I know someone here on TBH is going to win.

But lets google odds of winning or being the sole winner and see what else could happen to you that has the same odds.

You are 300 times more likely to be stuck by lightning

And 200 times more likely to be struck by a meteor.

I always hear people say this one but how many people have won a powerball drawing? Now how many instances are recorded of someone being struck by lightning while being bitten by a shark? Thatís all the proof I need to tell me that the odds are on my side of becoming a billionaire!!

Odd of winning the Powerball and megamillions both are in in 75 quadrillion. Serious.

More likely
Be struck by lightning, while drowning Ė (1 in 183 million)
You're more likely to be hit by part of a plane falling from the sky

at some point the payoff is big enough to outweigh the odds and it justifies buying a ticket. at the same diversification is very important .....

If you take half up front and assume 50% in taxes with odds being 1:300mil

Then the odds or risk/reward are in your favor if you're the sole winner and it's over 1.3 billion. But you have to plan on being the sole winner

If 2 people win it needs to be 2.4 billion

Odds are better you have a heart attack, survive, wreck your car on the way home from hospital, have another heart attack and wreck again going back to the hospital.

How about this... you are 4 times more likely to win the lottery than be the lucky swimmer to get to the egg.

Everyone has already beaten lottery odds at least once just by being born.

Nope. Your soul was always there. You would have been born regardless of the sperm. It would just be a different body.

How do the odds change ? There is the same amount of combinations whether itís a billion dollars or ten million . You have to pick the correct one .

Yeah...I guess so. I was really talking about the people I know that don't buy a texas lotto ticket because it's only 3 million or whatever. Their chances are much better to win that than the powerball (I think). But they go buy powerball tickets with steeper odds.

The entertainment value of dreaming about a billion dollars worth of toys/ranches is much better than only a couple million dollars worth.

Yep, I see it as paying $3 for a few minutes of dreaming (and having a very slight chance) of being super rich. Pretty cheap entertainment.

One of the best bumper stickers that I've ever seen said, "The Lottery is for people who failed math." Just to illustrate the point, I told my receptionist last week to pick 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. She said, "that would be a waste of money, it would never come up like that." I told here that the odds were just a good as any other combination, and I think she grasped my point, but an awful lot of people don't understand how bad the odds really are.

The only odds that change are the likelihood that you might be splitting the jackpot with someone else due to the increase in tickets sold.
