Default looking for Knapping rock

Wife and I are in Bulverde for about 3 weeks. Would like to gather around two 5 gallon buckets of knapping rock to take home. Been to the Pederales and the Guadalupe rivers in the past. Any other areas I can look. Any help is appreciated and thanks.

Not sure what types are down here. I picked up rock off the Pedernales in the past so that type would be good. I would go back to Frederickburg but the spots that I know are pretty picked over and it is hard to get permission from land owners on the river to gather a bucket. Thanks

DRT: Texas has a lot of knapping rock. I know most is on private property and can understand property owners don't want strangers wondering around looking for it. There is a lot of knappable rock at landscape companies but that stuff is pretty tough to work. I eye ball rock around restaurants but my wife won't me pick any up, lol.

Could you post a pic of what you are looking for? I could probably pick some up for you and ship it to you if it's small stuff you are wanting.

BToutdoors. I really appreciate that offer but that's OK. A knapper knows what rock to pick up and what rock to leave. Again, thanks..

Well over 600 views and not one to help me. That's OK (it has to be) we will be on our way back home on Monday. Anyone need anything while in West Michigan I will do my best to help you out with any info available. Lots to do and see up there in the spring, summer and fall months. Hundreds of thousands of state and federal acres to roam around on and camp and for the most part without and issue.

We come to Texas to visit my Marine buddy who took a head shot in Viet Nam which left him right side paralyzed. We had a good visit and that is what counts the most.

i suspect I'm preaching to the choir but considering Texas is 95% private it's difficult to find landowners that will allow access to their property to collect knapping rock; Collecting rock from a State Park is a no-go too.

My advice is to go to most any stream/river crossing in the Hill Country and collect from there. Alternatively, give a Hill Country limestone quarry a call and see if they have and willing to sell you what you're looking for.

oh, I believe there is/was a guy in the Ft Worth area that sells knapping material:
