Default AR-15 $2G budget

With the chance if Killary winning I'm investing in my first AR. My question to the folks that are familiar with them is Daniel Defense going to be the best bet for that budget? I came to the GS because I trust you all over the Rifle Gear workers. Don't ask! Lol.

I'm right there with you. I've been looking at Spikes but I also don't know which is best.

LaRue Tactical and Noveske are out if my range from what I saw. I'm just wondering if Daniel Defense is the best option at this point. I looked into building my own, but when I looked up parts and put it all together plus the cost of paying someone to build it correctly it wasn't going to save me but about $150 and who knows how long I would have to wait for parts.

Go to palmettostatearmory.com and order two ar's with awesome scopes and add Timney or CMC triggers and add a thousand rounds of ammo instead of spending 2k on one gun.

I honestly don't know why people are still spending more than 800 bucks on an AR complete with optics anymore.

Gun show so if the day after the election you accidentally drop in off your boat in the middle of the ocean no one will come looking for it.

I understand what you are saying, but just the feel of the $800 rifle felt like a plastic piece of chinga if you know what I'm saying. I pick up the $1500 DD and it felt like a freaking rifle man. I don't know, I always believe you get what you pay for

If I ever have to use it for more than pig hunting I want to know I can rely on it being durable.

Listen to this guy. ^^^^^

If you shop around a little you can probably buy 10-12 magazines also since those would be on any sort of gun ban list....

I've literally held hundreds of AR's and fired everyone that's been put to market, the only one I've ever felt was junk was the first gen m&p. Honestly I still believe smith and Wesson is junk.

Palmetto guns are made from the same manufacturers as everyone else. You are used to holding 800 retail store rifles, big difference between palmetto and someone selling an 800 dollar retail rifle.

That DD is way over priced at 1500, sorry guys, but stop buying ar's from retail stores. Start buying online.

I bought 1000 rounds and 10 pmags for 349 on palmetto the other day. That's basically 150 bucks in mags free.

Sign up for their daily deal emails. Then when you see something you like buy. If you want to stash some lowers away jump on them when they are cheap and have them shipped to your local FFL. That will be the regulated item that could be potentially banned (though I doubt an AWB is on the horizon), even if that corrupt liar got into office.

Buy 4-5 complete lowers at 170 bucks a piece and you will be set for life and you will not lose money on your investment. Then when you see an ar upper you like jump on it.

If your looking at the $1500 DD you also might consider the LWRC IC-DI, the gas key is machined into the BCG rather than "bolted" and "staked"

Listen to Mesquitecountry.
You can also buy a Colt LE6920 then stock up on ammo. I have an Aero build and it is solid as a rock.

Larue Tactical or PWS Mod 1. You can get a PredatAR brand new for $1807.00 and a PWS for $1599. If you do go with PWS, get the Mod 1 that has the forward assist. You will not be disappointed and have zero regrets.

I have 3 Palmetto AR's.... and all three of them shoot just as well as a spikes or a DD. I think they are great weapons. also own a DPMS that is great.

If you are spending over 800 on a rifle, you are way overspending. A 500 dollar rifle with a nice ACOG or EOTech shoots better than a 1200 gun with a cheep *** sight because you blew your load on the rifle itself.

Get what YOU want brother. At the end of the day, that gun is no fun if you wanted something sexier. You can take a fat girl to the prom and still get lucky but wouldn't you rather take a bombshell and not have to hide her from your buddies?

Battle rifles aren't built for groups. But I get what you are saying. That's what the OP should ask him self. Do you want to shoot clover leafs or deliver lead? If you want both you should spend a little more money. A little.

Don't know about all the others, but Larue rifles don't leave Leander unless they can shoot 1" groups. Most all of the others are mil-spec, or 4".

3-4 inches the one time I shot one at the range. But I don't have 30 round magazines and holographic sights to poke holes in paper, I use them for maximum pig killin as uncle Ted would say. I also enjoy plinking around the ranch at varmints and dumping mags as a stress reliever.

I guess my point is that even if PSA,DMPS or M&P's really were somehow inferior, would 1-3 inch variance at 100 yards really make a difference in this type of weapon?

I'd buy a fairly cheap lower and get a good trigger to put in it. Then I'd put a LWRC or YHM upper on it. That's what my brother did with his 6.8 and it's a heck of a shooter. Shooting the brass on an empty shotgun shell at 100 yards is easy with that setup.

They aren't inferior, they're mil-spec. They're not precision 500 year rifles.

I agree with mesquitecountry. I built two AR's this year and spent right at $1100 before optics. Got all the parts (except the stripped lowers) from PSA. I've only shot one of them so far, but it shoots great out to 100 yards. I went this route because; A) I wanted an AR but didn't want to spend a lot for as little as I get to shoot, and B) I like to build stuff.

And PSA has some great daily specials that roll around. I've been jumping on the bulk ammo with the PMAGS as well. Those are some decent deals.

If you shop carefully and don't mind buying used you can find your larue or noveske for under 2k in classifieds on Ar15.com or snipershide. Personally I've always bought an assembled upper and put together my own lower pretty simple to do. Best of luck in your search. If I had your kind of budget I'm sure I would be looking further at the upper tier of rifles.

If you are ok with " minute of pig" and that will work for you.Great. I prefer my rifles to shoot less than 1 MOA on all bolt and gas guns. If it won't do that, I don't want it. But that is me.

The size of the magazine will not improve your accuracy.

Having a 3" group will be way off at 300-400 yards for shooting coyotes

Default AR-15 $2G budget

My palmetto scoped rifles will all shoot 1-1.5" all day with a good trigger and good ammo. With wolf sub 2" is a cake walk.

I did this with a 500 dollar PSA cheap rifle, standard trigger, a2, vortex red dot, and wolf ammo in less than a minute from one mag leaning against a post.

I bought a BCM Jack Carbine 2 or 3 years ago. It was little over $2k, but not much. I've been very pleased with it.

I custom built an AR15 in 6.5 Grendel that consistently put 5 bullets through the same hole at 100yds. $1200

You can build a LOT of gun for what a name will cost you. BTW--That was with a spikes lower
