Amy and I headed to the lease near Del Rio Friday afternoon for a Saturday to Monday hunt. She wasn't able to hunt much last year and was ready to let an arrow fly. I had two old bucks at my stand that I wanted to get off the feed bill. One is a 130ish buck that is seven or eight and the other was a 100ish eight point that I thought was 5+.
We saw several nice bucks and turkeys on our first two hunts but weren't able to seal the deal on anything. Sunday morning, the eight and a big four year old nine came in. We waited quite a while, hoping the bigger target buck would come in but he was a no show. Around 8:15, I told Amy to shoot the eight. The buck was quartering away and she hit it perfectly. It jumped out of the pen and we heard it crash just beyond. The arrow entered about midway back in the ribs and lodged in the offside shoulder.
Back at camp, the teeth showed the buck to be seven. Amy got a buck and did her part for the management plan.
