I guess it depends if it is a Colorado hunt or a Texas hunt

My first year trad hunting will be still hunting on the ground, where I think having a light weight bow will come in very very handy. I may climb up my 7' portable tripod (low tree hill country.)

I like the '15' rule...15' high and 15 yard shot distance to where the critters are expected to pass. The height seems to work well for most terrain here, it's still low enough for a decent shot angle, and 15 yards is close enough for good accuracy but far enough to not spooking animals during the draw.

Out here where I'm at I can get above the trees and still see ants crawling. West Texas isn't conducive to tree stand hunting in most places.

15 feet is a good stopping point.
